  • Dax Fulton RP | MIA

Marlins' Dax Fulton: Optioned after making debut

The Marlins optioned Fulton to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Fulton made his major-league debut Wednesday versus the Orioles with a solid four innings of relief, allowing a couple runs. He will likely rejoin the rotation at Jacksonville.

  • Graham Pauley 3B | MIA

Marlins' Graham Pauley: Sent down to minors

The Marlins optioned Pauley to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Pauley has slashed a lowly .173/.225/.293 with a pathetic 17.5 percent hard-hit rate this season, which wasn't enough to keep a regular role despite solid defense. With Pauley in the minors, Connor Norby should see more reps at third base for the Marlins.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Undergoes meniscus surgery

Boyd underwent a successful menisectomy Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Boyd did not need a full repair of his meniscus, with Cubs manager Craig Counsell saying the surgery was "minor" and the club hopes to get the left-hander back in around six weeks. Jordan Wicks (elbow) and Javier Assad are candidates to grab Boyd's spot in the Cubs' rotation.

  • Cubs' Gavin Hollowell: Joins big-league bullpen

The Cubs recalled Hollowell from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Hollowell has permitted only two runs with a 15:6 K:BB over his first eight innings at Iowa. He'll give manager Craig Counsell a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Corbin Martin RP | CHC

Cubs' Corbin Martin: DFA'd by Cubs

The Cubs designated Martin for assignment Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Martin pitched well initially after being added to the Cubs' roster last month, but he was scored upon in each of his last three appearances. Gavin Hollowell will absorb his spot in the bullpen.

  • Nate Lowe DH | CIN

Reds' Nathaniel Lowe: Absent from lineup

Lowe is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Lowe had made 13 straight starts, as he's settled in as the everyday designated hitter since Eugenio Suarez (oblique) went on the injured list. Elly De La Cruz is getting a day at DH while Lowe gets some rest.

  • Pete Fairbanks RP | MIA

Marlins' Pete Fairbanks: Completes bullpen session

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said that Fairbanks (hand) threw a "very encouraging" 13-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Jeremy Tache of Marlins.tv reports.

Fairbanks was able to get back on the mound for the first time since Miami placed him on the 15-day injured list April 28 due to nerve irritation in his right hand. Though Fairbanks had a similar occurrence of nerve irritation back in the 2024 season with the Rays and ended up missing about three weeks, the Marlins are hopeful that the veteran reliever will be ready to return from the shelf in close to the minimum 15 days. Fairbanks' ability to complete a side session is a promising step toward meeting that goal, and he's set to throw again Friday before Miami determines his next steps, per MLB.com.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Grabbing seat Thursday

Kelly is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Reds.

Kelly had started three of the previous four tilts but will get a breather for the series finale. It will be Miguel Amaya doing the catching and batting ninth for the Cubs.

  • Seiya Suzuki RF | CHC

Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Exiting starting lineup

Suzuki is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Reds.

It looks to be a routine day off for Suzuki, who had started each of the previous six contests for the Cubs. Michael Conforto is getting a rare start in right field as the Cubs try to a complete a four-game series sweep.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Sitting out matinee

Goodman is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Mets.

Goodman was in the lineup for each of the last nine games, so he'll receive a breather during Thursday's matinee. Brett Sullivan will handle the catching duties and bat ninth for the Rockies.
