Cabrera (finger) will start Saturday's game against the Giants, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Cabrera landed on the injured list in late May with a blister on his right middle finger but is now slated to return to the Cubs' rotation following a near-minimum stay. The 28-year-old righty got off to a strong start this season but has struggled as of late, posting a 5.79 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across 18.2 innings (four starts) in May.

The Padres transferred Pivetta (forearm) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

The right-hander landed on the shelf in mid-April due to a flexor strain and isn't expected back anytime soon, so the move to the 60-day IL doesn't affect his return outlook. Pivetta recently returned to playing catch, but he still has a significant way to go in his throwing program before returning to game action.

Garcia (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Dunedin on Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Garcia has been on the injured list all season while working his way back from a cleanup procedure he underwent on his right elbow in September. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in mid-May but suffered a minor setback during his first appearance and was slowed down. He's ready to test his elbow in a game setting again now that he's thrown a few more bullpen sessions without problems, though he will likely require several minor-league outings before the Blue Jays bring him back from the IL.

Boyd (knee) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

If the rehab start goes well for Boyd on Saturday, he will rejoin Chicago afterward. The southpaw made his most recent rehab start Sunday, when he allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts across four innings.

The Padres selected Bowen's contract from Triple-A El Paso, and he's starting in left field and batting seventh Tuesday against the Phillies.

The 25-year-old is taking the place of Ramon Laureano (hip), who was placed on the injured list Tuesday. Bowen will be making his MLB debut and has a decent path to playing time due to Laureano being hurt and Nick Castellanos struggling to a .560 OPS. Bowen has a .292/.362/.600 slash line with 13 home runs and seven steals in 49 games with El Paso this year.

Nance (forearm) threw live batting practice Tuesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Nance was cleared to begin throwing off a mound Thursday, and he seems to be making considerable progress in his recovery given that he's now facing live hitters. He's scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, and a return from the injured list may come shortly thereafter.

Cease (hamstring) is expected to make a rehab start at Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Cease threw another bullpen session Tuesday and participated in change-of-direction running drills. Assuming he doesn't run into any setbacks following his latest activity, he'll head out to Triple-A for what will likely be his only tune-up outing before being activated. He would then be lined up to make his return from the injured list next Tuesday and start against the Phillies.

Sanchez (wrist) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta.

Sanchez is dealing with a wrist contusion that he suffered when he was hit by a ball thrown from the stands during Sunday's loss to the Orioles. The 28-year-old underwent X-rays that came back negative, but he'll still be held out of the starting nine for at least one game.

Kirk (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Dunedin on Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Kirk will serve as the designated hitter when he begins his rehab assignment. The 27-year-old cleared the final steps in his recovery needed to begin the assignment by catching a live batting practice session and facing live pitching. He still needs plenty of playing time before he returns to Toronto.

The Cubs recalled Ferguson from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

Acquired via trade from the Athletics last month, Ferguson was tagged for four runs over 1.1 innings in his lone major-league appearance this season and holds a 5.12 ERA and 13:11 K:BB across 19.1 frames at the Triple-A level. The 32-year-old will give the Cubs a fresh bullpen arm.
