McCollum agreed to a one-year, $21 million contract extension with the Hawks on Sunday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. McCollum will avoid free agency and remain with Atlanta after being acquired from the Wizards in January. Over 41 regular-season appearances (25 starts) with the Hawks last season, the veteran guard averaged 18.7 points, 4.1 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals while shooting 45.6 percent from the floor in 28.8 minutes per showing.

McCollum closed with 11 points (4-13 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and three rebounds over 24 minutes during Thursday's 140-89 loss to New York in Game 6 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. After a hot start to the series, McCollum wasn't able to find much success against the Knicks in Game 6 as Atlanta's season came to a disappointing end. Since joining the Hawks following a midseason trade with Washington, McCollum meshed well with his new team. He made 41 regular-season appearances (25 starts) and produced averages of 18.7 points, 4.1 assists, 3.1 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 2.3 three-pointers in 28.8 minutes per contest.

McCollum had six points (3-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 0-3 FT), three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 32 minutes during Tuesday's 126-97 loss to New York in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. McCollum simply couldn't get anything going Tuesday, delivering easily his worst game of the playoffs. After scoring at least 23 points in the opening three games, McCollum has scored a total of 23 points in his past two appearances, both of which have been losses. Now trailing 3-2, the Hawks will return to Atlanta for what is a must-win game. Look for McCollum to try to turn things around with a goal of forcing a Game 7.

McCollum notched 23 points (8-19 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 5-7 FT), five rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals in 35 minutes during Thursday's 109-108 win over the Knicks in Game 3 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. McCollum posted a decent scoring line, but his most important contribution of the night came in the final moments of the fourth quarter, as he drilled a 15-foot jump shot with 12.7 seconds left to put his team up by one. The veteran guard is a big reason the Hawks are up 2-1 in the series. He's averaging 27.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks through his first three appearances of the 2025-26 postseason.

McCollum tallied 32 points (12-22 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 5-7 FT), six assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block across 35 minutes in Monday's 107-106 Game 2 win over the Knicks in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. McCollum provided a steady scoring presence and finished as the game's leading scorer as the Hawks rallied to stun the Knicks in Game 2. The veteran has led his team in scoring in both games of the first-round series, shooting over 50 percent from the field in each. With the series tied at 1-1 and shifting to Atlanta, McCollum's offensive production will need to continue for the Hawks to pull off the series upset.
