The Kings waived Noel on Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com reports. Sacramento waived both Noel and Neemias Queta (foot) on Tuesday, meaning that Alex Len and JaVale McGee will compete for the team's backup center role behind Domantas Sabonis (thumb). Noel is a capable shot-blocker who can find himself on another roster competing for a depth role in the frontcourt for the 2023-24 season.

Noel and the Kings agreed to a one-year, $3.1 million deal Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Noel made 17 appearances (four starts) split between the Nets and Pistons last year, averaging 2.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals-plus-blocks in 11.5 minutes per game. The 2013 first-round pick has struggled to stay healthy during his career, but when available, he can be a solid defender. In Sacramento, he'll presumably compete with Alex Len and Trey Lyles for backup center minutes behind Domantas Sabonis (thumb).

Noel isn't expected to sign another contract with the Nets after his first 10-day contract expired Wednesday, Brian Lewis of the New York Post reports. Noel appeared in three games with Brooklyn after being bought out by Detroit in late February and struggled to impress the team enough to earn another contract. In his three appearances with the Nets, Noel averaged 1.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists over 14.3 minutes. It's unclear if the veteran big man will garner much interest on the open market.

Noel will start Thursday's tilt against the Bucks, Brian Lewis of the New York Post reports. With usual starting center Nic Claxton out (thumb, Achilles), Noel will draw the start in just his second appearance with Brooklyn. In three prior starts with the Pistons this season, the veteran averaged 3.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.7 steals and 1.3 assists in 20.3 minutes.

Noel played 18 minutes and produced two points (1-1 FG), three rebounds and one steal in Tuesday's 118-96 win over the Rockets. With Ben Simmons (knee/back) missing his seventh straight game Tuesday and second-year big man Day'Ron Sharpe having struggled in his recent appearances before falling out of the rotation, head coach Jacque Vaughn turned to the newly signed Noel to handle backup center duties behind Nic Claxton. Noel wasn't particularly impressive during his time on the court, as he committed more fouls (five) and turnovers (three) than any other statistic. That said, Noel has shown the ability in the past to put up interesting defensive counting stats when given meaningful run, so he could have some appeal as a deep-league streamer for steals and blocks if he stabilizes in a 15-to-20-minute role behind Claxton.
