• Khem Birch: Finds work in France

  Birch signed a one-year contract with French club Basquet Girona on Feb. 5. After spending the past six seasons in the NBA, Birch had been out of work since October, when the Spurs cut him toward the end of the preseason. The 31-year-old center's time in basketball's top league could well be over at this point, but Birch is still young enough to enjoy some productive seasons overseas.

  Birch will be waived by the Spurs on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Birch saw his role decline with the Raptors over the last few years, and he was unable to make the Spurs' final roster ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. However, it's possible that he finds work elsewhere as a depth option at some point this year.

  Birch (undisclosed) won't participate in an inter-squad scrimmage Saturday, Tom Osborn of The San Antonio Express-News reports. Birch is the third name that will be out of the scrimmage Saturday, as Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson have been ruled out as well. It remains to be seen if Birch will be available for the preseason opener against the Thunder on Monday.

• Spurs' Khem Birch: Back to full health

  Coach Gregg Popovich said Thursday that Birch (knee) has been "full speed" in practice to begin training camp, Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News reports. Birch was traded to the Spurs in February but didn't make any appearances for his new team to close out the 2022-23 campaign since he was dealing with a lingering knee injury. While he's healthy ahead of the 2023-24 season, it's unclear how much of a role he'll have with the Spurs once the regular season begins.

  Birch (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Mavericks, Jeff Garcia of KENS 5 San Antonio reports. Birch was acquired by San Antonio ahead of the trade deadline, but he never made any appearances for the Spurs while battling a lingering knee injury. He made 20 appearances for the Raptors this season, posting 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per game.
