The Raptors signed Fernando to a non-guaranteed contract Friday, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports. The 25-year-old was released by the Hawks earlier this week and didn't take long to latch on with a new team. Fernando will need a strong camp to have a chance of earning a place on the season-opening roster.

The Hawks waived Fernando on Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. After spending just one full season with the club, Fernando will now look to sign with a new team after being waived by the Hawks. The 25-year-old was a non-factor in the first half of the 2023-24 regular season, during which he averaged 4.0 points and 3.1 rebounds across 9.0 minutes in 18 games. However, after the All-Star break, Fernando saw an uptick in playing time, and he averaged 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 19.3 minutes in 27 appearances.

Fernando and the Hawks intend to push back the guarantee deadline on his contract to July 10, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Hawks and Fernando decided on a similar move prior to last season, and ultimately the center's contract was guaranteed. If the club decides to guarantee his salary this season, Fernando is set to make $2.7 million this upcoming year. The 25-year-old was a non-factor in the first half of 2023-24; however, after the All-Star break he saw an uptick in minutes, during which he averaged 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 19.3 minutes.

Fernando will come off the bench for Wednesday's Play-In Tournament game against the Bulls, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Fernando drew the start in the final game of the regular season but he'll retreat to the second unit since Clint Capela (rest) is back in action. While it's assumed Atlanta will trim down their rotation, Fernando should see upwards of 20 minutes Wednesday.

Fernando contributed 12 points (3-5 FG, 6-6 FT), two rebounds and one assist over 21 minutes during Sunday's 157-115 loss to Indiana. Fernando got the starting nod with Clint Capela (rest) sitting out the regular-season finale, ending as one of four Atlanta starters and five players with a double-digit point total in a losing effort. Fernando started his second game of the season Sunday, his first that ended with 10 or more points. He rounds out the regular season by posting 11 double-digit scoring outings.
