The Pelicans plan to waive Nowell on Wednesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. After failing to win a spot on the Wizards' season-opening roster coming out of the preseason, Nowell caught on with the Pelicans on a one-year deal earlier this month when New Orleans was short on healthy bodies. He had appeared off the bench in eight of the Pelicans' last nine games, averaging 8.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 three-pointers in 21.0 minutes while shooting just 35.6 percent from the floor. The Pelicans will replace Nowell on the 15-man roster with Elfrid Payton, who will provide New Orleans with a more traditional option at point guard while Dejounte Murray (hand) and Jose Alvarado (hamstring) are sidelined.

Nowell produced 11 points (4-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal across 23 minutes during Monday's 118-100 loss to Portland. Nowell made just his second appearance for the Pelicans against the Trail Blazers after signing with New Orleans on Saturday. While the 25-year-old guard struggled with his efficiency, he was the team's leading scorer off the bench. With Jordan Hawkins (back) questionable for Wednesday and Dejounte Murray (hand) and CJ McCollum (thigh) out for significant periods, Nowell could continue to receive extended playing time.

Nowell signed with the Pelicans on Saturday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Nowell signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Wizards in late August, but he was waived following the end of training camp. Nowell joins a Pelicans team dealing with injuries to CJ McCollum (thigh), Dejounte Murray (hand), Herbert Jones (shoulder) and Trey Murphy (hamstring).

The Wizards waived Nowell on Thursday, Varun Shankar of The Washington Post reports. Nowell made 13 regular-season appearances for the Pistons and Grizzlies in 2023-24. However, he is likely going to begin the 2024-25 campaign with the Capital City Go-Go of the G League.

Nowell and the Wizards agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract Wednesday, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports. Nowell will get a chance to compete for a spot on the Wizards' 15-man roster to open the season, though by virtue of signing an Exhibit 10 deal, Washington will retain his G League rights if he fails to make the cut. The 25-year-old guard appeared in 13 games at the NBA level in 2023-24 with the Grizzlies and Pistons, averaging 6.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 16.5 minutes.
