The 76ers announced Tuesday that McCain underwent successful surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear and remains out indefinitely, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports. McCain suffered his left meniscus tear against Indiana and is set for extended absence. While Philadelphia has yet to rule the rookie guard out for the rest of the season, Eric Gordon will likely continue to receive increased playing time.

The 76ers announced Saturday that following Friday's game versus the Pacers, an MRI revealed a lateral meniscus tear in McCain's left knee. The rookie guard will undergo surgery and is out indefinitely, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports. McCain's meniscus is a major blow to Philadelphia, as the team's laundry list of injuries has resulted in a 7-16 record. McCain had been the Rookie of the Year frontrunner, as he was averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 25.7 minutes on 46.0/38.3/87.5 shooting splits across his first 23 appearances. While the 20-year-old guard hasn't been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign yet, he is set to miss a significant period. Reggie Jackson and Kyle Lowry (back) are candidates to receive increased playing time in his absence.

McCain (concussion) finished with five points (2-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt), one rebound and three assists over 29 minutes during Friday's 121-107 loss to the Pacers. McCain was able to return to Friday's contest after being evaluated for a concussion, and while his output in the box score was muted, it's worth noting he started the second half for the injured Joel Embiid (face). The rookie first-rounder has shined when given the chance to be a member of the first unit this season, averaging 23.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 3.6 three-pointers in 36.6 minutes per game over eight appearances as a starter. If Embiid can't play in Monday's game against Charlotte, McCain would be a candidate to join the starting lineup and likely offer more fantasy upside if tasked with an enhanced role.

McCain is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Magic, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports. McCain will move back to a bench role with the return of Paul George to the starting unit. The rookie out of Duke is averaging 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 three-pointers made when coming off the bench this season.

McCain will start Wednesday's game against the Magic. McCain started seven straight games before returning to the second unit for Philadelphia's previous pair of contests. He'll return to the starting five Wednesday while Paul George (rest) and Joel Embiid (knee) are sidelined. McCain averaged 23.7 points, 4.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals across those seven starts.
