The Timberwolves traded Reid, three first-round pick swaps, three second-round pick swaps and a 2033 unprotected first-round pick to the Hornets on Thursday in exchange for LaMelo Ball and Josh Green, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Minnesota has now moved on from Reid and Julius Randle this offseason, with the former heading to another crowded frontcourt. Reid has averaged at least 13 points and five assists while shooting 36 percent from three in each of his past two seasons. Currently, he's slated for another reserve role, but Miles Bridges has been in the rumor mill this offseason, so Charlotte may not be done making moves.

Reid ended Friday's 139-109 loss to San Antonio in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals with 18 points (7-13 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds and one assist across 32 minutes. Reid did his best to keep the Timberwolves' season alive Friday, with the veteran big man finishing as the team's third-leading scorer behind Anthony Edwards (24 points) and Terrence Shannon (21 points). Reid saw his numbers dip slightly in 2025-26 compared to the previous season, though he noted to reporters during Saturday's press conference that a right shoulder injury around the time of the All-Star break played a part in that, per Chris Hine of The Minnesota Star Tribune. Reid is entering the second year of a five-year, $125 million contract, and while he's come off the bench for most of his NBA career, he could operate in an expanded role in 2026-27 if the Timberwolves opt to trade one or both of Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic posits.

Reid injured his ankle early in the fourth quarter but returned to the contest. He was also involved in the game's pivotal news item, as he was on the receiving end of Victor Wembanyama's Flagrant 2 foul, which caused the MVP candidate's ejection. Reid avoided injury despite taking an elbow to the face and managed a solid line that came one rebound shy of a double-double. The series is now guaranteed to last at least two more games, and Reid's high floor will make him a solid DFS target for Game 5.
