Hayes was waived by the Cavaliers on Wednesday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports. Hayes will be let go after signing with the Cavaliers on Sept. 23, but is expected to join their G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge, as he works toward another opportunity. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft spent part of last season with the Nets, averaging 9.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds across six regular-season appearances.

Hayes and the Cavaliers agreed to a deal Tuesday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports. The specifics of the deal have yet to be reported, but this could be an invitation to a training camp. Hayes last spent time with the Nets during the 2024-25 regular season, posting averages of 9.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds in six appearances. Hayes could be an option to provide depth in the backcourt behind Lonzo Ball with Darius Garland (toe) sidelined to begin the season.

Hayes became a free agent Sunday after his 10-day contract with the Nets expired, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports. Look for the Nets to either re-sign Hayes to a second 10-day deal or bring aboard another player to fill the vacant roster spot before their next game Tuesday in San Antonio. After signing with Brooklyn on Feb. 20, Hayes appeared in each of the Nets' ensuing six games, making five starts while averaging 9.0 points (on 41.9 percent shooting from the field), 5.2 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 three-pointers, 0.7 steals and 0.7 blocks in 27.2 minutes per contest.

Hayes logged 16 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal over 30 minutes during Friday's 121-102 loss to Portland. Hayes filled the box score Friday, matching the team high in scoring as well. The 23-year-old floor general has now started four games in a row, during which he's averaged 11.3 points, 6.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.8 blocks and 2.0 three-pointers in 28.9 minutes while shooting 50.0 percent from deep. Hayes should continue carrying a short-term boost in fantasy value while D'Angelo Russell (ankle) remains on the shelf, but his streaming appeal could wear off once the latter is able to return.

Hayes logged 19 points (7-13 FG, 5-10 3Pt), two rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes during Wednesday's 129-121 loss to the Thunder. Hayes made his third straight start for the Nets and posted another solid line, including a season-high mark in points, as he ended just three assists shy of a double-double. It's only been three starts, but Hayes has left some good sensations with averages of 9.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 0.7 steals per game in those three starts.
