Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Double-double to open Summer League
Edey tallied 14 points (7-12 FG), 15 rebounds, four blocks and one assist across 34 minutes in Monday's 97-95 overtime loss to the Jazz in the Salt Lake City Summer League.
Edey dominated the glass in an exciting matchup with Walker Kessler, a two-year professional of the NBA. Edey did turn his ankle in the beginning of the third quarter, but he returned to the game shortly thereafter. The big man grabbed boards with ease and put up four blocks as he patrolled the paint. The 22-year-old also set tough screens, showing a skill that the Grizzlies will look to pair with Ja Morant's explosiveness on the ball. Edey was dominant at Purdue, and in his last season there he averaged 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 2.0 assists in 39 games.

Charles Bassey C | GS
Charles Bassey: Waived by San Antonio
The Spurs waived Bassey (knee) on Monday, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports.
Bassey's release was a necessity after the team acquired Harrison Barnes via trade and signed Chris Paul. However, the team could look to bring the 23-year-old back if he clears waivers. Bassey's 2023-24 season was cut short in December by a torn ACL, but he made 19 appearances prior and averaged 3.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 blocks across 10.8 minutes per game.

Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Absent in loss Monday
Wembanyama (ankle) missed France's 70-65 exhibition loss to Germany on Monday due to an illness, Jeff Garcia of KENS 5 San Antonio reports.

In two exhibitions thus far, the 2024 Rookie of the Year averaged 25.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 blocks across 19.5 minutes. His stellar play proves he's moved past the ankle injury that sidelined him for the Spurs' final regular-season game. Wembanyama could return as soon as Friday against Serbia; however, there is no rush as France does not begin play in the Olympic Games until July 27 versus Brazil.
