Fantasy Football 12-team Superflex PPR mock draft results, recap: Remain flexible as possible at QB

Prior to our 12-team, Superflex draft on Wednesday featuring members of our CBS Sports staff, I asked on Twitter/X what is your preferred strategy for this format. And the answers were interesting.

One person replied, "Grab my quarterbacks early and then not have to worry about the rest of the draft until I get my QB3 in the later rounds." Another person said, "Wait until 13 are drafted then double dip on preferred options. And if a third that I really like is still available we triple dip."

Then there was my favorite answer from another person who said, "I let the board fall to me." And that's my favorite approach as well -- in any format.

You want to have some plan prior to a Superflex draft when you know your draft spot. But you shouldn't lock yourself into any strategy without the ability to be flexible.

For example, in this draft, I had the No. 2 overall pick, and I was prepared to draft a quarterback, which ended up being Josh Allen after Patrick Mahomes went first overall. But I didn't want to tie myself to QB-QB or any other strategy moving forward.

Seven quarterbacks were selected in Round 1 and five went in Round 2, so there were quality passers available when I was up again at No. 23 overall, including Tua Tagovailoa, Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams, and Jared Goff, among others. Any of them would have made for an excellent Superflex, but I went a different route.

Instead, I took the best players available at this turn, and I ended up with Jonathan Taylor and Puka Nacua, which I love. But I also didn't want to go too long without a second quarterback. 

In Round 4, I selected Matthew Stafford, and then I drafted my third quarterback in Deshaun Watson in Round 7. I also took a flier on Taysom Hill in Round 13, and he is listed only as a quarterback on CBS because that's what he's designated for the Saints.

My quarterback situation is solid in this league, even if I didn't draft two of them in the first four rounds. And I was still able to get standout running backs (Taylor, Joe Mixon, Brian Robinson Jr., and Chase Brown) and receivers (Nacua, Deebo Samuel, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Brandin Cooks, and Tyler Lockett), with Jake Ferguson at tight end.

I love the balance of this roster, and being flexible on Draft Day was crucial. You want to have a plan, but you also should plan to alter it if players that you covet land in your lap.

As a reference point for this draft, all touchdowns are worth six points, and we award one point for every 10 yards rushing and receiving and one point for every 25 yards passing. We also award one point for every reception. We feature a starting lineup of QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, FLEX (RB/WR/TE), Superflex (QB/RB/WR/TE), DST, and K with six reserves for a 17-round draft.
