Smith notched eight tackles (six solo) during Thursday's loss to the Rams. Smith logged his best tackling game of the season during Minnesota's loss to Los Angeles in Week 8 while playing 100 percent of defensive snaps. The veteran safety's strong floor as a run stopper makes him a viable fantasy option in IDP formats, especially given that he retains an every-down role heading into the Vikings' home matchup against the Colts in Week 9.

Smith recorded six tackles (five solo), including 1.0 sacks, during Sunday's 23-17 win against the Jets. Smith came free on a cleverly designed blitz and rocked Aaron Rodgers to force a Jets punt late in the second quarter. The veteran is on pace for more than 100 tackles in his 13th season in the league and thus carries some IDP appeal coming out of Minnesota's Week 6 bye.

Smith had six total tackles and a pass defensed in Sunday's win over Houston. Smith nearly had a pick-six when he blocked a pass attempt on a blitz and almost caught the rebound. Smith played on 52 of the defense's 67 snaps. He's played on 76 percent or more of the defense's snaps each of the first three games despite preseason talk of pacing the veteran's play this season.

Smith (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers, the Vikings' official site reports. Smith upgraded to a limited practice level Friday, which bodes well for his chances of being cleared to take the field versus San Francisco. The veteran safety played 93 percent of defensive snaps Week 1 against the Giants.

Smith did not participate in Thursday's practice due to a hip injury. Smith practiced without restrictions Wednesday, but the 2012 first-round pick is nursing a groin injury that kept him off the field Thursday. His status for Week 2 against the 49ers should be more clear once Friday's injury report is released. Smith registered seven tackles (three solo) and one interception in the Vikings' Week 1 win over the Giants.
