The Cowboys signed Watkins off the Commanders' practice squad Wednesday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. Head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that Watkins was signed to help replace Jordan Phillips (wrist), who was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Watkins appeared in two regular-season games with the Cardinals in 2023, recording seven total tackles and one pass defended over 40 defensive snaps.

Los Angeles signed Watkins (biceps) to a contract Wednesday. Watkins spent most of the 2023 season on IR with Arizona due to a biceps injury suffered Week 2. Now healthy, he'll get a chance to spend the rest of training camp competing for a depth role with the Rams.

Watkins has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's divisional-round game against the 49ers due to a calf injury, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. Watkins went down in the first half of Sunday's matchup due to his calf injury, and he'll be unavailable to close out the game. Prior to his departure, he recorded a solo tackle. It's unclear whether the 2017 fourth-rounder would be available for next Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Eagles if Dallas advances.

Watkins was released by the Cowboys on Tuesday, Rob Phillips of the team's official site reports. Watkins was let go as part of the team's final roster trimming Tuesday. The 28-year-old defensive tackle re-signed with Dallas in March after recording 32 tackles, one sack and one interception over 15 games (14 starts) in 2022. Watkins, who primarily played in a reserve role (42 games, 18 starts) over the first four years of his career with Houston, will now look to land a contract elsewhere heading into the regular season.
