  • Eddie Goldman: Off reserve/left squad list

    Goldman (undisclosed) was released from the reserve/left squad list by the Falcons on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Goldman signed a contract with the Falcons in July 2022 after he spent six seasons with the Bears. However, a couple of weeks later, the Florida State product opted to retire instead. He attempted a comeback in 2023 but that ended with him once again walking away from Atlanta and being placed on the exempt/left squad list.

Coach Arthur Smith clarified in July that Goldman wouldn't play again for Atlanta during the 2023 campaign.

Goldman's career appears to be coming to a definitive end after he was reinstated from the Falcons' reserve/retired list in March. The 29-year-old essentially unretired after walking away for the entire 2022 campaign, though he missed practice Friday while once again considering retirement, and head coach Arthur Smith said Saturday that the defensive tackle will not play for Atlanta in 2023. If this is ultimately the end for Goldman, he will wrap up his career with 175 tackles and 13 sacks over 81 games played for the Bears from 2015 to 2021.

  • Head coach Arthur Smith told reporters Friday that Goldman, who was absent from practice for personal reasons, is considering retiring for a second time, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports. Goldman was reinstated from the reserve/retired list in March after initially hanging up his cleats last July. Smith noted that Goldman looked "phenomenal" when he showed up Tuesday for check-in and is hoping to have an answer about Goldman's status by Saturday. Goldman last played for Chicago in 2021, when he posted 22 tackles and 0.5 sacks in 14 games.

    The Falcons announced Tuesday that Goldman has informed the team he intends to retire. Less than two weeks after signing with Atlanta, the 28-year-old nose tackle has had a change of heart and will instead end his career. A second-round pick of the Bears in 2015, Goldman totaled 174 tackles and 13 sacks in 81 games over six seasons, all with Chicago. He had previously opted out of the 2020 campaign before returning to action in 2021.
