Coach Romeo Crennel said Monday that Conley (ankle) is still "not working" and that he doesn't "know where [a possible return] stands," Aaron Reiss of The Athletic reports. Conley has spent the entire 2020 season on IR while recovering from January ankle surgery. The fact that a timetable for his return remains uncertain as of Week 10 is enough to shed doubt on his chances of playing at all this year. Houston's secondary could certainly use Conley's help, as the unit is allowing 256 passing yards (22nd worst in the league) and 30.2 points (29th) per game.

The Texans placed Conley (ankle) on injured reserve Monday. Conley started training camp on the PUP list since he had ankle surgery in January, but he didn't miss practice after being activated on Aug. 10. According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Conley has struggled in his return from injury and was expected to lose the starting job to Lonnie Johnson anyway, so the Texans hope a few weeks of rest can help Conley fully recover. He'll be eligible to return Oct. 4 versus the Vikings.

The Texans won't exercise Conley's (ankle) fifth-year option for 2021, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. General manager/head coach Bill O'Brien was non-committal when asked about the cornerback's fifth-year option earlier this offseason, but Houston formally decided on Conley's future beyond 2020 on Wednesday. After coming over in a trade from Oakland in October, the 24-year-old suited up in eight regular-season contests for Houston and posted 27 tackles and 11 pass breakups. Conley, who is recovering from a minor ankle surgery he required in January, is still expected to open the upcoming season as a starter in Houston's secondary.

Coach Bill O'Brien said Conley will play Sunday against the Raiders, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. Conley was acquired from Oakland on Monday and it's no real surprise he'll immediately play against his old team. The Texans were in dire need of help at cornerback with Bradley Roby (hamstring) potentially sidelined through the Week 10 bye while Johnathan Joseph (hamsting/shoulder) is also less than 100 percent.

Conley (neck) is expected to play in Sunday's home game against the Chiefs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Conley suffered a scary neck injury during last Monday night's game, in which he had to be carted off the field. The Ohio State product was able to log limited practice time this week and appears ready for Week 2. It's unclear if he'll get the start opposite Daryl Worley, but Conley is expected to play in some fashion.
