  • Steven Nelson: Calling it a career
    By RotoWire

Nelson (head) retired from the NFL on Sunday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports. The cornerback retired after a 2023 season in which he intercepted four passes, broke up 12 in total and helped the Texans make the playoffs. Nelson said that he wanted to spend more time with family. The 2015 third-round pick played nine seasons with the Chiefs, Steelers, Eagles and Texans, recording 456 tackles and 13 interceptions.

  • Texans' Steven Nelson: Enters free agency
    By RotoWire

Nelson (concussion) recorded 63 tackles, 12 passes defensed and four interceptions over 17 regular season games in 2023. Nelson had a contentious offseason with the front office, held out of OTAs, eventually signed a reworked deal, and was named a team captain. The cornerback then played through several nagging injuries to complete a full 17-game season and had a pick-six in the Texans' postseason win over the Browns. He earned a reputation as a leader and one of the hardest workers on defense. Nelson, who turned 31 in January, enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and will want to be paid. It's unlikely Houston general manager Nick Caserio will want to pay what Nelson feels he deserves.

  • Nelson had five tackles, three passes defensed and an 82-yard interception return for a touchdown in Saturday's 45-14 wild-card playoff win over Cleveland. After a back-and-forth first half, the Browns were driving to pull closer on their first possession of the third quarter, but Nelson's pick-six extended Houston's lead to three scores. He was aided greatly by defensive end Derek Barnett, who impacted Joe Flacco's throw. The interception was Nelson's fifth since the start of the regular season and the first of his career in the postseason.
