  • Vikings' Aaron Jones: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)
    By Jamey Eisenberg

Houston has allowed a running back to score in each of the first two games against Jonathan Taylor and Khalil Herbert, but it's been hard to run on the Texans. Taylor had 16 carries for 48 yards and no catches in Week 1, and D'Andre Swift had 14 carries for 18 yards in Week 2 (he added four catches for 24 yards on five targets). Jones scored 18.9 PPR points in Week 1 at the Giants, but he struggled in Week 2 against San Francisco with nine carries for 32 yards and five catches for 36 yards on six targets, with a lost fumble. Ty Chandler had 10 carries for 82 yards against the 49ers, and we could see him get a bigger workload this week. Jones is still worth using as a low-end starter in all leagues, but don't expect him to have a big game against Houston in Week 3.

  • Jones was limited at practice Wednesday due to a hip injury. Jones' snap shares (55 percent in Week 1, 61 percent in Week 2) have been well ahead of backup Ty Chandler's (35 percent both times) this season. Having said that, Jones has 30 touches for 177 yards from scrimmage and one TD so far, while Chandler has a 21-124-0 line, respectively. Jones' injury history must be accounted for when it comes to the Vikings backfield, but he at least was able to mix into some drills Wednesday, so the team may be exercising caution with the eighth-year pro to ensure he's good to go Sunday against the Texans.

  • Jones rushed nine times for 32 yards and secured five of six targets for 36 yards in the Vikings' 23-17 win over the 49ers on Sunday. He also lost a fumble. Jones saw backfield mate Ty Chandler outpace him by one carry, although the former had a sizable pass-catching role while the latter was not involved as a receiver. Nevertheless, Jones' longest catch of the afternoon, an 18-yarder late in the third quarter, resulted in a fumble at the 49ers' two-yard line that San Francisco recovered. The miscue could have been critical in a tight game, and it remains to be seen if it will cost Jones any opportunities in a Week 3 home matchup against the Texans. The veteran saw only one more touch following the loose ball, but Judd Zulgad of VikingsWire.com reports Jones was shaken up after that carry and examined for a possible rib issue before being seen running on the sideline afterwards.

  • Jones rushed 14 times for 94 yards and a touchdown and brought in both targets for 15 yards in the Vikings' 28-6 win over the Giants on Sunday. Jones put together a highly efficient performance in his Vikings debut, which included a three-yard touchdown run into the left corner of the end zone early in the first quarter. His longest run was a modest 19 yards, underscoring how consistent he was in achieving meaningful gains throughout the afternoon. Even in a game script conducive to the run, Jones still ceded eight carries to backfield mate Ty Chandler, which highlights the coaching staff's plan to manage the former's workload over the course of the season. Jones gets a tough matchup for his next assignment, however, as the 49ers come into Minnesota for a Week 2 matchup next Sunday.

  • Vikings' Aaron Jones: RBs to Start
    By Jamey Eisenberg

I was concerned about drafting Jones as a top-20 running back this season, but I'm fine starting him this week against the Giants. When Jones is healthy, he'll be a borderline starter in all leagues, and this should be a positive game script against the Giants no matter what. If the Vikings are playing with a lead then Jones should get plenty of carries. And if Minnesota is trailing then Jones should work in the passing game. Ty Chandler will also be a factor, but Jones should take advantage of this Giants defense, which last season allowed 14 running backs to score at least 13.9 PPR points.
