The Texans released White from the practice squad Tuesday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. White had not been elevated to the active roster since Week 3. The linebacker has been dealing with a persistent hamstring injury that may have factored into the lack of elevation and eventual release. The seven-year veteran was a Cardinal last season, ending the 2024 campaign with one interception and 137 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and nine tackles for loss. If White can clear waivers, he will become a free agent.

Despite a productive 2024 campaign in Arizona that saw White record 137 tackles (60 solo), including 2.5 sacks, as a 17-game starter during the regular season, he spent the entire offseason as a free agent. White will provide experienced organizational depth behind Cody Barton and James Williams at linebacker.

White was brought in for a visit with the Lions on Wednesday, Justin Rogers of DetroitFootball.net reports. White compiled 137 total tackles (60 solo), including a career-high 2.5 sacks, while also adding three passes defensed, one of which was an interception, and a fumble recovery over 17 games with the Cardinals in 2024. The linebacker saw an increased role as a pass rusher with Arizona last season, and he could be a valuable addition for a Detroit defense that ranked in the bottom third of the NFL in team sacks (37) in 2024.

White notched 137 tackles (including 2.5 sacks), three pass defenses (including one interception) and a fumble recovery in 17 contests during the 2024 regular season. After averaging 4.5 tackles per game through his first three seasons as a pro, White hasn't looked back since breaking out with 144 stops in 2021, reeling off 7.8 per game since the start of that campaign. He even contributed a personal best in sacks this season and didn't miss a contest for the fourth time in his career. White is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and turns 29 in March, so his landing spot likely will determine whether or not he has a chance to replicate his numbers in 2025.

White finished Saturday's 13-9 loss to the Rams with eight tackles (four solo). White led the Cardinals in tackling Saturday and he has logged at least eight tackles in five of his last six games. He's played in every single snap in 13 of 16 games, and for the season he's up to 127 tackles (55 solo), including 2.5 sacks, two pass defenses (including one interception) and one fumble recovery. White and the Cardinals will look to finish the season out strong against the 49ers in Week 18.
