• Chiefs' Carson Steele: Week 3 Waiver Priority List

  We have a big opening in Kansas City with Isiah Pacheco (leg) expected to miss 6-8 weeks. There's not one running back with a clear path to guaranteed touches for the Chiefs, but I would prioritize Steele ahead of Samaje Perine (19 percent rostered) for now. There's the chance Kansas City could sign Kareem Hunt (2 percent), who is visiting the team Tuesday, but he's 29 and wasn't in training camp for any team this year. And Clyde Edwards-Helaire (15 percent) could return to action as early as Week 5 after he was placed on the reserve/non-football list with an illness prior to the season. Most likely, Steele will handle running downs for the Chiefs, and Perine will work on passing downs. And if Hunt is signed, he could take over either role, but it could take him some time to get in game shape. I would spend no more than 15-20 percent of your remaining FAB on Steele, up to 10 percent on Perine, and 5 percent on Hunt or Edwards-Helaire, who could be stashed on IR. For me, the upside play is Steele, and I'm hopeful he's the one who replaces Pacheco heading into Week 3.

  Isiah Pacheco is out for six to eight weeks and as of Tuesday morning it appears Carson Steele is the first option to lead the Chiefs backfield. At the very least, we would expect Steele to be the short yardage back, which gives him a chance to be a touchdown-dependent flex. It's possible he sees 15 touches and functions as a true RB2. Assuming Kareem Hunt does not sign, you can spend up to 20% of your FAB on Steele.

  Steele appears set to get the first chance at the No. 1 role in Kansas City's backfield in Week 3 versus the Falcons, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports. Steele will look to step up in the absence of Isiah Pacheco (fibula/ankle) after Pacheco was diagnosed with a fractured fibula Monday. Steele turned seven carries into 24 yards Week 2 versus the Bengals, and he's produced 27 yards on nine rushes through two games this season. Head coach Andy Reid said Monday that Steele will "have to step it up there and in that role" and that "this will be a good challenge for him." The 21-year-old won't be the team's only option in the backfield, as veteran Samaje Perine will likely also see an uptick in usage after playing nine of the team's 65 offensive snaps Week 2, though Perine's value is more evident in the passing game.

• Chiefs' Carson Steele: Larger workload could await

  Steele carried seven times for 24 yards while playing 14 of Kansas City's 65 snaps on offense in Sunday's 26-25 win over the Bengals. Steele is averaging just 3.0 yards over his first nine NFL carries, but the undrafted rookie out of UCLA could nonetheless be headed for an expanded role in the offense with Isiah Pacheco (fibula/ankle) expected to land on injured reserve, according to Charles Goldman of AToZSports.com. Along with Steele, Samaje Perine -- who played nine of 65 snaps in Week 2 -- should take on extra work, though Kansas City may prefer to limit Perine to a passing-down role. The team will almost certainly add another running back or two to the 53-man roster before Sunday's game in Atlanta to help replace Pacheco, making it difficult to project what Steele's workload might look like.

  Steele could see significant playing time early in the season, starting with Thursday's game against the Ravens, as teammate Clyde Edwards-Helaire will miss at least four weeks after being placed on the non-football illness list Monday, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. Steele profiles as the third option in Kansas City's backfield behind Isiah Pacheco and Samaje Perine, though Perine has been with the team for only two weeks and thus may not be available in all situations. Steele made the 53-man roster after a strong training camp and preseason.
