Sermon had two carries for zero total yards and one reception for seven yards in Sunday's loss at Green Bay. Sermon played on just 18 of the offense's 56 snaps but got most of his usage late in the fourth quarter when the Colts were playing from behind. Jonathan Taylor was surprisingly on the bench late after some drops earlier in the game, so Sermon and Tyler Goodson could see more of a role in the passing game.

Sermon did not log a rushing attempt or draw a target during Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Texans. Sermon handled the No. 2 role behind Jonathan Taylor versus Houston, playing five offensive snaps while Tyler Goodson didn't take the field. No running back aside from Taylor, who rushed 16 times for 48 yards and a touchdown, factored into the game plan for Indianapolis' opener, but Sermon should mix in more frequently going forward. More opportunities could come Week 2 against a Packers defense that allowed 132 yards from scrimmage and three TDs to Saquon Barkley in Week 1.

Sermon (hamstring) wasn't listed on the Colts' injury report Wednesday. Sermon has evidently moved past the hamstring issue that sidelined him last month, and as a result is in line to be available to back up starting running back Jonathan Taylor in Sunday's season opener versus the Texans. Tyler Goodson is also on hand as a reserve option, though neither Sermon or Goodson is likely to garner a high volume of weekly touches as long as Taylor is available.

Sermon (hamstring) didn't play in Thursday's 27-14 preseason win over the Bengals. James Boyd of The Athletic expects Sermon to have a spot on the initial 53-man roster despite missing the final two preseason games and the past couple weeks of practice. The running back was injured during the first quarter of the Colts' preseason opener, after reports out of training camp pegged him as a favorite for the second spot on the depth chart. It's a role that doesn't figure to entail many touches when Jonathan Taylor is healthy, and there's some chance Sermon's absence will lead the Colts to turn to Evan Hull and/or Tyler Goodson instead. The team may even put Sermon on injured reserve if he won't be ready for Week 1, in which case he'd be ruled out for the first four games of the season.

Sermon (hamstring) did not play in Saturday's preseason win over Arizona. Sermon left Indy's first preseason game Sunday with a hamstring injury. The severity of the injury isn't clear, but it's thought he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. Sermon had been the leader for the No. 2 RB role behind Jonathan Taylor prior to the injury, with Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull competing for the No. 3 role.
