Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Friday that Britt (ankle) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Britt injured his ankle Week 13 versus the Panthers and will now miss his second consecutive game while working to rehab. With Britt unavailable, J.J. Russell (hamstring) could get a chance to enter the starting lineup, if he can get healthy. Otherwise, that opportunity will figure to go to Vi Jones.

Britt hurt his ankle against Carolina in Week 13 and missed this past Sunday's win over the Raiders. His participation level the rest of this week should clarify whether he has a chance of returning to action Sunday against the Chargers. If Britt can't play in that contest, J.J. Russell could get a start if he's able to return from a hamstring issue. Otherwise, the opportunity could go to Vi Jones.

Britt will focus on progressing in his recovery enough to return for Week 15 against the Chargers on Sunday, Dec. 15. J.J. Russell is expected to start at inside linebacker alongside Lavonte David due to Britt's injury.
