The Chiefs are slated to place Edwards-Helaire (illness) on the reserve/non-football illness list Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Edwards-Helaire regularly missed practices during training camp, and he also revealed in July that he deals with post-traumatic stress disorder. His placement on the NFI list will rule him out for at least the first four games of the season and position Samaje Perine for a key backup role behind starting running back Isiah Pacheco. Meanwhile, UDFA Carson Steele bumps up into the No. 3 spot.

Edwards-Helaire (illness) remains in line to fill a depth role out of the backfield behind Isiah Pacheco to begin the regular season, Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star reports. Edwards-Helaire, who revealed last month that he deals with post-traumatic stress disorder, has missed a number of practices in training camp. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said Tuesday that despite the missed time, the Chiefs "know who Clyde is and what he's done" and "know now what his strengths are" and "how to use him." Along with Edwards-Helaire, Deneric Prince and Carson Steele are also in the team's running back mix behind Pacheco.

Coach Andy Reid indicated that he expects Edwards-Helaire (illness) to practice Monday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports. Edwards-Helaire didn't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Lions, and it's unclear if he'll see snaps in Kansas City's exhibition finale versus the Bears on Thursday. When available, Edwards-Helaire slots in behind top back Isiah Pacheco, but the 2020 first-rounder's status is worth monitoring ahead of Week 1. In addition to Pacheco and Edwards-Helaire, Deneric Prince and Carson Steele also could factor into Kansas City's backfield equation out of the gate this season.

Edwards-Helaire (illness) is not practicing Monday, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports. Edwards-Helaire suited up for Saturday's preseason loss to Jacksonville after missing time in recent practices due to an illness, and it appears the veteran running back is now sick again. He's competing with Deneric Prince for the No. 2 backfield role behind starter Isiah Pacheco. Edwards-Helaire entered Saturday's game second after Pacheco, with Prince taking the field third among Kansas City's running backs.

Edwards-Helaire rushed twice for no gain and wasn't targeted in the Chiefs' 26-13 preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday night. The fifth-year pro was the second back to log a carry after Isiah Pacheco helmed the ground attack on the Chiefs' opening drive. The backfield pecking order Saturday mirrors the one Kansas City is expected to start the regular season with, one where Edwards-Helaire logged a modest 87 touches in across 15 regular-season games in 2023.
