Detroit plans to sign Thomas off of the Bengals' practice squad Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. After Pro-Bowl defensive end Aidan Hutchinson underwent surgery to repair a fractured tibia and fibula, the Lions are seeking some depth on the edge. Thomas figures to eventually play a rotational role there behind Josh Paschal and James Houston if he's signed.

Thomas underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday. Thomas was injured during practice Saturday and will now likely need several weeks to recover. He was competing to earn a spot on the team's 53-man roster, which wasn't a guarantee for the 24-year-old who was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 Draft. Now on the shelf for multiple weeks, it's possible this news could impact his ability to make the team.

Thomas participated in team drills Thursday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. Thomas missed multiple games last season due to a foot injury. He operated in a rotational role on Cleveland's defensive line in 2022, amassing nine tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery in 10 games. He was seen practicing at defensive end with the second nickel defensive group during OTAs on Thursday.
