Thomas didn't have a tackle and played just three snaps on defense in Sunday's win over Chicago. Thomas started 15 of 17 games last season but lost the starting free safety job to Nick Cross. It's a little surprising he has a limited role off the bench. He's played just 25 snaps on defense in three games.

Thomas is not practicing Tuesday due to a toe injury, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports. It's unclear how long Thomas may need to be sidelined, but any kind of extended absence would be detrimental to the Colts' secondary. Thomas had one total tackle but played on all 59 of the defense's snaps in Sunday's loss at Tennessee. Thomas got the start at free safety even with Julian Blackmon active and playing 21 snaps. It's not clear if Thomas has overtaken Blackmon for the starting job or if Blackmon is just working his way back to full speed after not playing for three games due to an ankle injury.
