• 49ers' Brock Purdy: Throws for over 300 yards in loss

  Purdy completed 28 of his 36 passing attempts for 319 yards, one touchdown and one interception while rushing twice for 12 yards in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Vikings. Purdy was charged with a second turnover in the form of a lost fumble in defeat. The 24-year-old's gaffes proved to be costly for both fantasy managers and the 49ers after the team lost by one score despite being favored in Sunday's road contest. Purdy was his usual sharp self in the pocket (78 completion percentage) outside of the pair of second-half turnovers Sunday. The star quarterback has a prime opportunity to get right against a rebuilding Rams defense next Sunday after a pair of pedestrian fantasy lines to kick off the 2024 campaign.

  I didn't expect Purdy to have a big game against the Jets in Week 1, and he scored 10.3 Fantasy points because he failed to throw or run for a touchdown. He should improve this week against the Vikings, even though Purdy struggled at Minnesota in Week 7 last year when he only scored 14.8 Fantasy points. The Vikings played an inept offense last week against the Giants, but this is a big step up in competition against the 49ers, who have an implied total of 26 points this week. I like Purdy as a low-end starter in all leagues.

  Purdy completed 19 of 29 pass attempts for 231 yards and added 11 yards on one rushing attempt but did not score any touchdowns in Monday's 32-19 win over the Jets. Purdy didn't put up strong fantasy numbers due to the lack of touchdowns in Monday's victory. The 25-year-old was without the services of star running back Christian McCaffrey (calf) for the 49ers' home opener, but the rest of the offensive unit picked up the slack behind a strong defensive effort in the decisive victory. Purdy threw a clean game that featured a pair of rushing touchdowns from Jordan Mason and Deebo Samuel and six field goals from kicker Jake Moody. Expect San Francisco's star quarterback to put up bigger performances, with the next opportunity coming against the Vikings on Sunday.

  Purdy got his guys back when Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams signed contract extensions just prior to Week 1, but how much both will play against the Jets remains in question. It's also a brutal matchup against the Jets and former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh since the Jets were No. 2 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks last year. I would only start Purdy in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues this week.

  Purdy completed nine of 12 pass attempts for 96 yards and one interception in Friday's preseason finale against the Raiders. Purdy had a better go of things in his second preseason tilt after going completing just two of six attempts against the Saints in last week's exhibition. The 24-year-old wound up completing three drives Friday before an interception off of a tipped pass ended the starter's final exhibition appearance of 2024. Preseason results rarely matter for proven starters in the NFL, so fantasy managers should focus on Purdy's stellar 4,280/31/11 passing line from his breakout 2023 campaign, given his good health and favorable fantasy situation heading into Week 1.
