  • Dak Prescott QB | DAL

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Extension talks not close

Prescott and the Cowboys aren't close to agreeing on a long-term deal ahead of the July 15 deadline, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Prescott signed his $31.4 million franchise tag last month, which obligates him to show up for the start of training camp even if a long-term deal isn't reached by the looming deadline. The Cowboys have reportedly attempted to negotiate a five-year contract with Prescott, while the soon-to-be 27-year-old signal-caller has pursued a shorter deal for four years which would allow him to hit free agency sooner. The two sides now have just a handful of days to come to terms on a multi-year agreement before the franchise tag gets locked in, though Watkins notes that the "situation could change."

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Mega-extension confirmed

The Chiefs have confirmed that Mahomes has been signed to a 10-year extension that is slated to keep the QB with the franchise for the next 12 seasons.

Per ESPN.com, Mahomes' extension is reportedly worth $450 million, while the injury guarantee in his deal is $140 million. Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggests that the pact is worth $503 million, with the star signal-caller getting $477 million "in guarantee mechanisms as well as "outs" if the guarantee mechanisms aren't exercised." Either way, Mahomes, who turns 25 in September, is now in line to have the largest contract in American professional sports.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Extension tops $400 million

The 10-year contract extension signed by Mahomes on Monday is reportedly worth over $400 million, ESPN.com reports.

With that, Mahomes, who was the 2018 NFL MVP, is under contract with the Chiefs through the 2031 season, while the exact parameters and cap ramifications of his lucrative extension have yet to be outlined. In any case, the 2017 first-rounder, who turns 25 in September, is now slated to remain the face of his team's franchise for years to come. After two full seasons as a pro starter, the Super Bowl LIV MVP has established himself as one of the league's top players, in both real and fantasy terms.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Gets 10-year extension

Mahomes agreed Monday with the Chiefs on a 10-year contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The initial report doesn't provide details beyond the length, but there's no doubt it will be the largest contract in NFL history for both total value and guaranteed money. Mahomes is entering his fourth pro season and will turn 25 in September.

  • Trace McSorley QB | WAS

Ravens' Trace McSorley: Facing competition for No. 3 gig

McSorley will need to battle for a roster spot this summer, SI.com's Todd Karpovich reports.

The 2019 sixth-round pick had a roster spot all last season as the No. 3 quarterback, but there's no guarantee the Ravens keep three signal-callers again. Even if they do, it could be undrafted rookie Tyler Huntley who gets the nod over McSorley, depending on how both players perform during training camp and the preseason. On the other hand, McSorley could push Robert Griffin for the second spot on the depth chart.

  • Jordan Love QB | GB

Packers' Jordan Love: Gets guaranteed rookie deal

Love agreed Wednesday with the Packers on a fully guaranteed, four-year rookie contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

According to Garafolo, Love is the first 26th overall selection in the current version of the rookie contract system to receive a full guarantee, demonstrating the team's confidence in the Utah State product. A controversial pick by Green Bay due to the presence of veteran signal-caller Aaron Rodgers, Love no doubt will be relegated to clipboard duties for at least the next couple of seasons as he learns the ropes. In the long run, though, Love figures to be the successor to Rodgers. Love is coming off a collegiate career in which he averaged 7.6 yards per attempt while tossing 60 touchdowns versus 29 interceptions in 38 games.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Ready to compete

Peterman (elbow) is healthy and ready to compete for a roster spot in 2020, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

An elbow injury ended Peterman's 2019 campaign early, but it appears his health is back up to par ahead of the upcoming season. He's the clear No. 3 quarterback on the Raiders' roster after Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota, but Peterman will work to convince the team to keep three quarterbacks during training camp.

  • Brian Hoyer QB | LV

Patriots' Brian Hoyer: Joined by Newton in Foxborough

The Patriots have signed Cam Newton to compete with Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham for the starting quarterback job, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Hoyer would've been the underdog in a 1v1 competition with Stidham and now looks like an extreme longshot to get the Week 1 start. In fact, the 34-year-old may not even have a spot on the 53-man roster, considering he's scheduled to make only $1.05 million in 2020. Ryan Hannable of WEEI reported three months ago that Hoyer was told he'd get a chance to compete for the starting job, but it's now fair to wonder if he'll actually receive a significant number of reps with the first-team offense to make his case.

  • Patriots' Jarrett Stidham: Gets competition from Cam

The Patriots have signed Cam Newton to compete with Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the starting quarterback job, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

The 2015 NFL MVP profiles as the favorite in his competition against a 2019 fourth-round pick and a veteran journeyman, but the door could open for Stidham if Newton isn't sharp during training camp. Given that he's coming back from major foot surgery and also has a troubling history of shoulder injuries, there's no guarantee the 31-year-old Newton will look like the prime version of himself. The Patriots' patient approach to their post-Tom-Brady quarterback situation might be interpreted as a sign of confidence in Stidham, who was sharp last preseason but only saw mop-up duty (four pass attempts, one pick-six) once the games counted.

  • Josh Allen QB | BUF

Bills' Josh Allen: Beefed up for 2020

Allen has looked noticeably bigger and stronger in the upper body in recent videos posted by his quarterbacks coach, Jordan Palmer, The Buffalo News reports. Said Palmer, " "It's muscle. He's in crazy shape and spinning it great."

Allen has always been a physical specimen, which has helped make up for some of his longstanding accuracy issues, but the reports show he looks even more chiseled even though the quarterback says he's only gained three pounds this offseason. The Bills have actually gone on record saying they'd prefer their franchise QB runs less going forward, but the bottom line is he's a handful to bring down and you'll get a bonus in rushing yards and even goal-line carries if you use him. Allen is not without his flaws and there's a pretty good debate as to whether he stacks up with other top young starters around the league, but if you're on the "pro" side of the argument, this is probably a good season to get ahead of the curve. He posted a 20:9 TD:INT ratio last season, perhaps not great, but when you add in his 510 rushing yards and nine TDs on the ground to go with a six percent increase in completion percentage (59 vs. 53 in his rookie season), it's easy to see that things are starting to click. Add in familiarity with Brian Daboll's offense and the addition of Stefon Diggs, and there's a chance Allen posts a big fantasy season, even if he does come with more risk than others.
