  • Jameis Winston QB | NYG

Buccaneers' Jameis Winston: Remains free of mistakes in win

Winston completed 16 of 25 passes for 208 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Buccaneers' 20-14 win over the Panthers on Thursday. He also rushed four times for nine yards.

Although it was a sluggish offensive performance at times and Winston took three sacks, he managed to author two 70-yard-plus drives and a key 11-play fourth-quarter march as well. Winston showed his greatest synergy with Chris Godwin, with whom he connected on eight occasions for 121 yards. The fifth-year quarterback was also victimized by key drops, as neither Mike Evans nor Breshad Perriman could come down with strong throws they got their hands on in the end zone. Despite the rather ordinary fantasy night, Winston was able to remain free of interceptions after throwing three in the opener against the 49ers and did enough to lead the Buccaneers to a tough road win. He and his offensive teammates will now have some extra time to review their first two games in coach Bruce Arians' new offense before taking on the Giants in a Week 3 matchup a week from this coming Sunday.

  • Logan Woodside QB | ARI

Logan Woodside: Practice squad injured list

The Titans placed Woodside on their practice squad injured list Thursday, Erik Bacharach of The Tennessean reports.

It remains to be seen what sort of injury Woodside is dealing with. Barring an injury settlement, the 2018 seventh-round pick's designation will possibly prevent him the opportunity of being promoted to Tennessee's 53-man roster at any point in 2019.

  • Browns' Baker Mayfield: No limitations at practice

Mayfield (wrist) isn't listed on the initial injury report for Monday's game against the Jets, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Mayfield had tape over some fingers on his left hand during Thursday's practice, but he didn't show any visible issues with his throwing hand. The quarterback appears ready to go for Monday's game in New York, facing an injury-riddled Jets team that may have to play without ILB C.J. Mosley (groin) and DL Quinnen Williams (ankle). The Jets already ruled out QB Sam Darnold (illness) and also have RB Le'Veon Bell dealing with a shoulder injury.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Multi-week absence likely, per Gase

Coach Adam Gase acknowledged Thursday that Darnold (mono) will probably miss multiple weeks, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports. "Looks like it," Gase noted with regard to the possibility that his top QB would miss more than one contest. "Good thing we've got an early bye week."

With that in mind, given that the Jets' bye is in Week 4, Darnold could potentially target a return to action in Week 5 against the Eagles. While he's out, Trevor Siemian will fill in at QB for the Jets, with Luke Falk set to serve as the team's No. 2 option at the position. In addition to being without Darnold for an indefinite spell, the Jets offense has already lost starting wideout Quincy Enunwa to a season-ending neck issue, while top running back Le'Veon Bell is dealing with a shoulder injury. That's hardly optimal for Darnold's fill-in, but on the plus side, Siemian does have 24 NFL starts under his belt, logged while he was with the Broncos during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

  • Trevor Siemian QB | ATL

Jets' Trevor Siemian: Set to fill in for Darnold

With Sam Darnold sidelined by a case of mononucleosis, Siemian is slated to start Monday night's game against the Browns, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.

Beyond Monday's tilt, the Jets are bracing for the possibility that Darnold could miss several weeks. In the meantime, Luke Falk has been promoted to the team's active roster to back up Siemian. Given that the Jets have a Week 4 bye, it's possible that Darnold could be a candidate to return for the Jets' Oct. 6 game against the Eagles. In such a scenario, Siemian would be on track for at least two starts, which puts him on the fantasy radar in two-QB formats, as well as for those scrambling to find a fill-in for Darnold.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Facing multi-week absence

Darnold (illness), who has already been ruled out for Monday's game against the Browns, is expected to miss multiple weeks, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.

With mononucleosis, not only is Darnold dealing with drastic weight loss and exhaustion, but the quarterback's health is put at a very high risk should he get hit in the spleen. With that, it looks like the quarterback is on track to miss at least a couple of games while nursing the illness. Fortunately for the Jets, they have a bye in Week 4, giving Darnold extra time to rest without missing any game time. Trevor Siemian will operate as the starting quarterback for as long as Darnold is out while Luke Falk, who was called up from the practice squad, will be the backup.

  • Luke Falk QB | NYJ

Jets' Luke Falk: Promoted to active roster

Falk will be promoted to the Jets' active roster this week and operate as the backup quarterback with Sam Darnold (illness) ruled out, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.

Falk was claimed off waivers by the Jets back in May before ultimately being released and signed to their practice squad at the end of August. Now, after just one week, Falk will be back on the active roster to serve as the backup to Trevor Siemian. With Darnold's absence expected to last multiple weeks, Falk will likely stay on New York's roster through the team's bye week in Week 4.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Out for Week 2 with mono

Darnold has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will not play in Monday's game against the Browns, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Darnold missed Wednesday's practice with what was originally believed to be strep throat, but further testing has revealed that the second-year quarterback is suffering from mono. The timetable for a return is fairly unpredictable, as not only is Darnold likely suffering from extreme exhaustion, but head coach Adam Gase has said that he has already lost a considerable amount of weight. Consider Darnold week-to-week for now, but in his absence, Trevor Siemian will take over as the team's starter under center.

  • Buccaneers' Blaine Gabbert: Ruled out Week 2

Gabbert (shoulder) will not be active in Thursday's Week 2 tilt against the Panthers, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports.

Gabbert did not practice during the short week, which already presented even more of a challenge for the veteran in achieving active status for the first time on the young season. Ryan Griffin will serve as Jameis Winston's backup once again against Carolina, while Gabbert will now have some extra time to prepare for a Week 3 matchup versus the Giants.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Practices fully

Mahomes (ankle) practiced fully Wednesday, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Mahomes tweaked his ankle in Week 1's win over the Jaguars, but he'll be fine for Sunday's game against the Raiders. Though Mahomes won't have Tyreek Hill to throw for a few weeks, the QB still has a pretty solid pass-catching corps to work with in the meantime, with Hill's absence presenting a prime opportunity for rookie Mecole Hardman to make a splash.
