  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Won't start, listed as doubtful

Darnold (foot) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bills.

Rich Cimini of ESPN.com relays via coach Todd Bowles that it's "possible" Darnold could suit up as the Jets' No. 2 QB on Sunday, but a more likely scenario is that the team promotes Davis Webb from the practice squad in order to back up Josh McCown this weekend.

  • Matt Barkley QB | JAC

Bills' Matt Barkley: Door open for potential start

Barkley could start Sunday against the Jets if both Josh Allen (elbow) and Derek Anderson (concussion) are unavailable, Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com reports.

Anderson has already been ruled out for Week 10, and Allen, despite getting in three days of practice this week, is no lock to return after missing nearly a month. If Allen is ruled out, Nathan Peterman would presumably be next in line for the Bills, but head coach Sean McDermott would not commit to him getting the nod in that scenario. That leaves the door open for Barkley to see his first action since signing with the Bills in late October. Barkley has not appeared in a game since 2016, so he would not be a recommended fantasy option in many formats. However, with options thin in leagues that use two quarterbacks, he would at least garner consideration there if he does wind up with the starting job against the Jets.

  • Bills' Nathan Peterman: Potential starting assignment up in the air

Head coach Sean McDermott would not commit to Peterman starting Sunday against the Jets in the event that Josh Allen (elbow) and Derek Anderson (concussion) cannot play, Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com reports.

Anderson has already been ruled out for Week 10, so he will not be an option for the Bills this week. Allen has not played in almost a month, and although he will get three days of practice in this week, he is not a lock to play, either. That would put Peterman in line for another start, but McDermott's comments at his Friday morning press conference leave the door open for Matt Barkley to start if Allen ultimately is ruled out as well. Expect more details on the Bills' quarterback situation to emerge in the near future.

  • Josh Allen QB | BUF

Bills' Josh Allen: Will be limited Friday

Head coach Sean McDermott said Friday morning that Allen (elbow) will be limited at the Bills' final practice session of the week, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.

Allen will get some work in for the third straight day, which bodes well for his chances of returning to action this week. However, McDermott did not commit to Allen starting just yet, and indicated the focus remains on Allen's health. Fellow quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 10, so if Allen remains sidelined, either Nathan Peterman or even Matt Barkley, according to Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com, will get the nod instead.

  • Joshua Dobbs QB | DET

Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Negative yards in mop-up role

Dobbs completed one of two passes for minus three yards during Thursday's 52-21 win over Carolina.

The second-year quarterback relieved Ben Roethlisberger with the game well in hand to play the final two offensive series, the second of which he didn't even attempt a pass. He looked like what one would expect from someone who has attempted just three passes in his career, but is still the leading candidate to take over the Pittsburgh offense if Roethlisberger were to get hurt.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Ditches one of his crutches

Garoppolo (knee) was spotted in the 49ers' locker room using only one crutch to move about, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Since undergoing surgery Oct. 3 to repair the torn ACL in his left knee, Garoppolo had been walking with assistance from two crutches. It only marks a minor step forward in the rehab process, but Garoppolo's comfort with using only one crutch suggests he's progressing as anticipated in the one-month mark in his recovery. The 49ers probably won't have a better idea of Garoppolo's outlook for training camp and/or the start of the regular season until they hold OTAs in the spring.

  • Josh Allen QB | BUF

Bills' Josh Allen: Turns in another limited practice

Allen (elbow) was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice.

According to Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic, Allen continued to sport a protective brace over his sprained right elbow, which has kept him out of action the last two games. There seems to be more optimism about Allen's health this week after he was able to practice on back-to-back days in limited fashion, leaving the door open for him to potentially start Sunday against the Jets. In order for that to be realistic, however, Allen will likely need to fit in more work in full team drills, as he was only going through individual positional work during the portion of Thursday's practice that was open to the media, per Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo. If neither Allen nor Derek Anderson (concussion) -- who didn't participate in practice Thursday -- is cleared to play this weekend, Nathan Peterman would likely be in store for another start.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Won't make Week 10 start

Coach Todd Bowles said Darnold (foot) wouldn't be available to start Sunday's game against the Bills, but could still dress as the backup quarterback, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Bowles made the announcement following Thursday's practice, during which Darnold was listed as a non-participant for the second straight day while managing a strained right foot. If Darnold is able to get some work in during the Jets' final practice of the week Friday, it could be enough for the team to keep the rookie active as an emergency backup to Josh McCown, who will be making his first start of 2018. Bowles reiterated that Darnold will take back the No. 1 gig once he's back to full health, per Mehta.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Spectator again for practice

Darnold (foot) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.

Though a strained right foot will prevent Darnold from going through team drills for a second straight day, he was in attendance for the session and was spotted doing some light, informal throwing off to the side, per Brian Costello of the New York Post. Perhaps more notable was the fact that he was still sporting a walking boot, according to Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record, casting doubt on the rookie's availability for the weekend. If Darnold is unable to fit in any on-field activity Friday and is ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Bills, Josh McCown would take over as the Jets' starting signal-caller.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Uncertain beyond Week 11 bye

Tannehill (shoulder) is scheduled to begin throwing a football next week with the hope of playing Nov. 25 against Indianapolis, but Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald believes that plan may be overly optimistic.

Tannehill has already been ruled out for a fifth straight game Sunday in Green Bay, with coach Adam Gase admitting Wednesday that it isn't even clear if the quarterback has made meaningful progress in his recovery from a shoulder capsule injury. Gase's admission hints at additional missed time beyond the weekend, though a Week 11 bye at least gives Tannehill some chance to avoid that scenario. Tannehill did sound a bit more positive than his coach, saying he's confident the shoulder is improving with time. Whatever the case, Brock Osweiler will start Sunday's game at Lambeau Field.
