The Bills traded AJ McCarron -- who had been competing with Peterman and rookie Josh Allen for the starting job -- to the Raiders on Saturday.

Peterman and Allen had seemingly pulled ahead of McCarron in recent weeks, but this makes it official that one of them will start Week 1 against the Ravens. The Bills have yet to make that announcement, though we'd give the slight edge to Peterman based on his superior preseason play and the fact he already has one NFL season in the books.

McGloin has a spot on the Chiefs' initial 53-man roster, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

The Chiefs will keep three QBs on their initial roster, with McGloin joining starter Patrick Mahomes and presumed backup Chad Henne. The team may still end up cutting McGloin before Week 1 to add help at another position.

Driskel is left as the Bengals' backup quarterback after Matt Barkley (knee) was placed on injured reserve, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Given that he completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 7.7 yards per attempt during the preseason, Driskel might have won the job even if Barkley hadn't injured his knee. It still isn't a situation that would inspire any confidence in the event of an Andy Dalton injury.

Coach Todd Bowles hasn't officially named a starter, but ESPN.com's Rich Cimini has no doubt Darnold will get the nod Week 1 in Detroit.

With Teddy Bridgewater traded to New Orleans on Wednesday and Josh McCown starting Thursday's preseason finale against Philadelphia, the Jets haven't exactly made an effort to hide their intention of starting Darnold. The team still hasn't actually come out and said it, but Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News and Brian Costello of the NY Post agree with Cimini that all signs point to Darnold getting the Week 1 start.

Hackenberg was let go by the Eagles on Friday, Matt Lombardo of the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports.

Even with Carson Wentz (knee) and Nick Foles struggling through injuries all preseason, Hackenberg was unable to carve out a backup position. The 2016 second-rounder moves on from his third team of the offseason after being traded by the Jets and cut by the Raiders. Hackenberg will be an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers.

Smith is expected to be named the backup quarterback after a preseason battle for the role with Cardale Jones, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports.

The 2013 second-round pick completed four of his six attempts for 16 yards in Thursday's 23-21 preseason win over the 49ers; hardly eye-popping totals, but the performance was evidently enough to solidify Smith's position as the No. 2 QB on the depth chart. Smith would be an intriguing fantasy option situated alongside a plethora of talented weapons such as Keenan Allen and Melvin Gordon, but given Philip Rivers has never missed a game since taking over as the starter 13 years ago, it's somewhat unlikely he'll get that opportunity in 2018.

Driskel was 14-for-20 for 116 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale.

Veteran backup Matt Barkley got hurt early in this one, but Driskel has had a better run than him against similar competition over the preseason. We'll see if the Bengals seek out a veteran improvement to be Andy Dalton's backup or are willing to ride it out with Driskel.

Jackson completed nine of 15 passes for 109 yards and took three carries for 25 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale against Washington.

Jackson played the entire first half and led the Ravens to 13 points on five drives. He's looked much better as a passer the last two weeks, after completing just 11 of 28 attempts through the first two games of the preseason. He finishes the exhibition slate 34-of-68 passing for 408 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, with 23 carries for 136 yards and three more scores. The completion rate (50.0) is far below NFL standards, but the Ravens didn't have any trouble scoring points when Jackson was on the field. The rookie has a real shot to open the season as Baltimore's No. 2 QB ahead of Robert Griffin.

Dobbs completed eight of 12 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown and took three carries for 18 yards and another touchdown in Thursday's preseason game against Carolina.

Dobbs got the start and led the Steelers to 17 points on four drives, finishing the preseason completing 29 of 43 passes for 434 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions, while also rushing 10 times for 64 yards and another score. He did his best to push Landry Jones out of a roster spot, but the Steelers may instead try to find a trade partner for the 2017 fourth-round pick.

Mayfield completed nine of 16 passes for 138 yards during Thursday's preseason game in Detroit.

Mayfield played the entire first half and led the Browns to 17 points on five drives. He completed 35 of 61 passes (57.4 percent) for 501 yards (8.2 YPA) this preseason, with two touchdowns, an interception and 11 carries for 34 yards. Tyrod Taylor will get the Week 1 start, but Mayfield's solid work in August may leave the 29-year-old on a short leash.
