Davis Mills QB | HOU
Texans' Davis Mills: Receives one-year extension
Mills and the Texans agreed Tuesday on a one-year, $7 million contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Mills had been ticketed for free agency next spring, but for the second September in a row, the Texans have given him some extra security in the form of a one-year extension. The $7 million deal is fully guaranteed, which should ensure that Mills faces no real competition for the No. 2 role heading into 2026. He'll be entering his third straight season as C.J. Stroud's backup and won't be in line for anything more than spot duty so long as Stroud is healthy. Through his first two NFL seasons, Stroud has missed just two games, with both absences coming late in his rookie campaign while he recovered from a concussion.

Sam Howell QB | PHI
Eagles' Sam Howell: Expected to be QB2
Howell is expected to serve as the Eagles' QB2 for Thursday night's Week 1 opener against the Cowboys, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Tanner McKee has a hand injury and isn't expected to be ready to back up Jalen Hurts for Week 1. Howell was acquired from the Vikings in late August.

Tyrod Taylor QB | NYJ
Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Back at practice
Taylor (knee) participated in Tuesday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
The Jets aren't required to release an official practice report until Wednesday this week, but Taylor's return to the field appears to put him on track for backup duties behind Justin Fields for Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Steelers.

Jameis Winston QB | NYG
Giants' Jameis Winston: Listed as QB3
Winston is listed as the Giants' QB3 on the team's unofficial depth chart ahead of Sunday's Week 1 game against the Commanders, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Winston spent the entirety of training camp and the preseason listed as the team's QB2 behind Russell Wilson, but rookie first-rounder Jaxson Dart had an impeccable preseason and has now leapfrogged the veteran as Wilson's top backup. Winston will now likely be inactive for Week 1.

Jaxson Dart QB | NYG
Giants' Jaxson Dart: Opening season as No. 2 QB
The Giants list Dart as their No. 2 quarterback on the unofficial depth chart released by the team Tuesday, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
Though the Giants had listed him behind Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on depth charts throughout the preseason, Dart took reps ahead of Winston in all three of New York's exhibition contests, with the rookie first-round pick completing 32 of 47 attempts for 372 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions to go with six carries for 52 yards and another score. He now appears to have clinched the No. 2 job heading into Sunday's season opener in Washington. While Wilson should start for the Giants as long as he stays healthy and keeps the team competitive, Dart's excellent preseason could embolden the coaching staff to make a change if the veteran shows any signs of slippage.

Tanner McKee QB | PHI
Eagles' Tanner McKee: Remains out of practice Monday
McKee (thumb) didn't practice Monday.
It's looking more and more like McKee won't be available for Thursday's regular-season opener against Dallas, as he's still recovering from a fractured thumb. If he doesn't suit up, Sam Howell would likely back up Jalen Hurts against the Cowboys.
-
Matthew Stafford QB | LAR
Rams' Matthew Stafford: In line to start Week 1
Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that Stafford is expected to start Sunday's regular-season opener against the Texans, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
Stafford has practiced in full since his return to the field Aug. 18, so while him being named the Week 1 starter was expected, McVay hadn't actually communicated the decision until now. With game day now approaching, the 37-year-old quarterback could begin having a cap on his reps as a form of load management, but barring a tangible setback in his recovery from the back injury that caused him to miss most of training camp and the preseason, fantasy managers will be able to count on Stafford's presence under center, a notable development for Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and RB Kyren Williams. Per Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site, starting left tackle Alaric Jackson (tailbone/blood clots) also is expected to play Week 1.

Tanner McKee QB | PHI
Eagles' Tanner McKee: Still not practicing Sunday
McKee (thumb) isn't practicing Sunday, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports.
McKee is dealing with a fractured thumb and hasn't practiced for about two weeks. With Philadelphia's regular-season opener against Dallas taking place Thursday, it's looking likely that McKee won't be ready to suit up. If that's the case, Sam Howell would be in line to serve as the backup QB behind Jalen Hurts.
-
Adrian Martinez QB | SF
Adrian Martinez: Latches on with Niners
The 49ers signed Martinez to their practice squad Thursday.
Martinez was apart of the Jets' final cuts this week and now latches on in San Francisco as organizational depth behind Brock Purdy. Martinez logged 102 offensive snaps this preseason and completed just 30 of 51 pass attempts for 352 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while adding three rushes for 26 yards.

Kyle McCord QB | GB
Kyle McCord: Will be Eagles' practice-squad QB
The Eagles signed McCord to the practice squad Thursday.
The rookie sixth-rounder wasn't able to crack the Eagles' 53-man roster, but he'll stay in Philadelphia as the team's scout team quarterback. With Tanner McKee in jeopardy of missing Week 1 due to a thumb injury, McCord could be elevated to the active roster to serve as the Eagles' emergency quarterback behind Jalen Hurts and Sam Howell.
