  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Doesn't practice Wednesday

Purdy (concussion) officially didn't take part in Wednesday's walk-through session, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News on Wednesday that Purdy developed concussion symptoms on the flight back to San Francisco after Monday's 22-17 loss at Minnesota. Per Wagoner, Shanahan wasn't sure when Purdy sustained the injury but thought it may have happened on one of his two quarterback sneaks in the fourth quarter. Purdy may have a tough time passing through all five phases of the concussion protocol on a short week, and if he's unavailable Sunday against the Bengals, the 49ers will turn to Sam Darnold under center.

  • Malik Cunningham: Set to rejoin Pats' practice squad

Cunningham cleared waivers Wednesday and is slated to re-sign with the Patriots' practice squad, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Cunningham -- who served as Mac Jones' top backup Week 6 against Las Vegas -- was waived by the Patriots after being inactive for this past Sunday's win over the Bills, but the versatile quarterback/receiver is back with the organization in short order. Meanwhile, Bailey Zappe and Will Grier remain on the 53-man roster as quarterback depth behind Jones.

  • Kyler Murray QB | MIN

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Gets back to full participation

Murray (knee) practiced fully Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Murray is in the second full week of his 21-day window in which he can be activated from the reserve/PUP list. Last week, he operated with a cap on his reps Wednesday through Friday, but those limitations appear to be in the rear-view mirror as the Cardinals begin Week 8 prep. Head coach Jonathan Gannon has been coy about when Murray may make his season debut, but if he continues to put together uninhibited practices this week, there's a chance he'll be available this Sunday against the Ravens. Arizona has until Saturday at 4 p.m. ET to activate Murray for the Week 8 contest.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Questionable for Week 8

Mayfield (knee) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game in Buffalo, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.

After opening Week 8 prep with an absence due to a knee injury, Mayfield was subsequently limited during Tuesday's walk-through session before turning in a full practice Wednesday. Still, as with wide receiver Chris Godwin (neck), Mayfield's status for game day remains up in the air. Expect Mayfield's availability to be clarified about 90 minutes before Thursday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, when Tampa Bay will release its inactive list.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Misses practice, as expected

    Fields (thumb) didn't practice Wednesday.

The absence from practice was expected after head coach Matt Eberflus referred to Fields as "doubtful" to play Sunday against the Chargers when asked Monday for an update on the quarterback's status. The 24-year-old likely will work with the training staff for most of the week while Tyson Bagent prepares for his second NFL start this weekend in Los Angeles.

  • Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Logs limited practice

Lawrence (knee) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday.

Lawrence approached this past Thursday's win over the Saints listed as questionable, but he was able to play though a mild left knee sprain while sporting a brace. Per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, Lawrence expects to wear a brace on the knee again in Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, but he should have a better chance of ditching an injury designation this week. Lawrence last practiced fully in Week 6, and he'll need to upgrade to all activity by Friday in order to avoid the questionable tag.

  • Taysom Hill QB | NO

Saints' Taysom Hill: Dealing with chest injury

Hill was a limited practice participant Wednesday due to a chest injury, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Hill's participation at the start of the week, even in a limited capacity, suggests he's more likely than not to play this Sunday against the Colts. His role, however, may be significantly different from the past few weeks with tight end Juwan Johnson (calf) returning to practice Wednesday and potentially suiting up this Sunday after missing four straight games. Hill saw seven and five targets over the past two contests, the first games in his career with more than three.

  • Jalen Hurts QB | PHI

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Sidesteps injury report

Hurts (knee) wasn't listed on the Eagles' first Week 8 injury report Wednesday.

Hurts played through a left knee injury this past Sunday against the Dolphins, completing 23 of 31 passes for 279 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, rushing 11 times for 21 yards and one more score and losing his only fumble. While he hasn't missed an offensive snap through seven games, he's already committed more turnovers (10) than he did all of last season (eight). With his health intact ahead of Sunday's contest, Hurts now will set his sights on a Commanders defense that allowed him to pass for 319 yards and two scores back in Week 4.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

49ers' Sam Darnold: Could get Week 8 start

Darnold may be in line to start Sunday's game against the Bengals after teammate Brock Purdy entered the concussion protocol earlier this week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

While not officially ruled out, Purdy faces a challenge to clear the five-step protocol on a short week after sustaining the head injury during Monday's loss at Minnesota. Darnold has taken 18 snaps and attempted one pass so far this season, strictly subbing in for Purdy in the late stages of blowout wins. The 26-year-old last served as a starter for Carolina over the final six weeks of last season, a stretch in which he won four games and completed 58.6 percent of his passes for 8.2 yards per attempt while accounting for nine touchdowns (seven passing, two rushing) and five turnovers (three interceptions, two lost fumbles).

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: In concussion protocol

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy entered the concussion protocol after Monday's 22-17 loss at Minnesota, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Purdy was his typical efficient self in Week 7, completing 21 of 30 passes for 272 yards and one touchdown, but he also threw a pair of interceptions, the last of which sealed the game. He then began to experience concussion symptoms on the flight back to San Francisco, clouding his status on a short week to prepare for Sunday's matchup with the Bengals. Shanahan told Matt Barrows of The Athletic that backup quarterback Sam Darnold will handle the first-team reps Wednesday, but Purdy will take part in some of the walk-through session.
