  • Browns' Jacoby Brissett: Works with first team Monday

Brissett quarterbacked the first-team offense during 11-on-11 drills Monday, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.

Brissett mostly has been working with the second unit during practice sessions, but the Browns need to prepare him for Week 1 of the regular season, knowing they'll likely be without Deshaun Watson for at least six games. Meanwhile, Watson was on the field with the second unit Monday. Brissett, who did not play in the preseason opener against the Jaguars, figures to make his debut this coming Sunday against the Eagles.

  • Rams' Matthew Stafford: Throws in abbreviated practice

Stafford (elbow) was a full participant in team sessions during the Rams' shortened practice Monday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.

Stafford first resumed throwing during individual sessions in practice last Tuesday after missing time this offseason while dealing with right elbow discomfort, per Barshop. Rams coach Sean McVay also said that the 34-year-old signal-caller is scheduled to be a full participant during the team's longer scrimmage Tuesday. Stafford's ability to participate in further team sessions would be an encouraging sign for his availability heading into Week 1 and beyond.

  • Kyler Murray QB | MIN

    Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Practices Monday

Murray (wrist) took part in Monday's practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Murray hasn't got much on-field work in training camp, first missing five days after testing positive for COVID-19 on Aug. 1 before having his practice reps limited last week due to a sore wrist. Monday's session actually marked the first in which Murray and Marquise Brown (hamstring) both were available, and the Cardinals also showed signs of running the Air Raid, with Brown and Rondale Moore serving as slot receivers while DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green manned the outside, according to Paul Calvisi of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. Murray won't have Hopkins available come Week 1 due to the wideout's six-game suspension to start the campaign, but the quarterback still has a wealth of skill-position talent with which to make his presence felt.

  • Panthers' Baker Mayfield: Sharing first-team reps still

Mayfield and Sam Darnold will continue splitting first-team reps during joint practices with New England this week, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Both played reasonably well in very limited action during the preseason opener. Coach Matt Rhule said the practices actually could be more important than Friday's preseason game against the Patriots, in which Mayfield and Darnold should get a bit more playing than they did in Saturday's win over Washington.

  • Jake Luton QB | LV

    Jake Luton: Waived by Jacksonville

Luton was waived by the Jaguars on Monday.

Luton appeared in each of Jacksonville's first two preseason games, completing 22 of 38 passes for 186 yards and one interception. The 2020 sixth-round pick was expected to compete for the top backup spot behind Trevor Lawrence, but he's been let go during the first wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 85-man roster deadline.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: Likely for action vs. Bengals

Coach Brian Daboll said Monday he intends for the Giants' first-team offense and Jones to play in Sunday's preseason contest against the Bengals, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Daboll said he hasn't yet determined how many series Jones and the first-team offense will handle in New York's second exhibition. Jones handled the first two offensive drives during the preseason opener against New England, so he and the starting unit could be in line for a similar amount of work Sunday when the Giants host the Bengals.

  • Kellen Mond QB | NO

Vikings' Kellen Mond: Two TD passes in preseason opener

Mond was 9-of-14 passing for 119 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's preseason loss at Las Vegas. He also had three carries for seven yards.

Round 1 of the battle for the backup quarterback job went to Mond, who outplayed Sean Mannion (8-of-12 passing for 79 yards and no touchdowns). However, Mannion played in the first half and Mond played against lesser competition in the second half. The battle for the backup role likely will continue through the preseason. Mond improved significantly from last year, when he looked lost at times during the preseason.

  • Raiders' Jarrett Stidham: Uses legs to score Sunday

Stidham got the start under center Sunday with Derek Carr (rest) sitting out. He completed 10 of 15 pass attempts for 68 yards while rushing four times for 16 yards and a touchdown in a 26-20 preseason win over the Vikings.

Stidham was acquired in what appeared to be a sweetheart deal between his former employer (Patriots) and his new team and head coach in Las Vegas this past offseason. The former fourth-round pick flashed his rushing abilities on an 11-yard scramble for a touchdown. Stidham wasn't much of a runner in college, totaling just 224 rushing yards on 211 attempts. The 24-year-old did have a nose for the end zone at Auburn (nine rushing touchdowns), so he could provide a unique set of fantasy stats as a pocket passer should Derek Carr miss time at any point during the regular season.

  • Joe Burrow QB | CIN

Bengals' Joe Burrow: Logs 7-on-7 reps Sunday

Burrow (appendix) participated in 7-on-7 drills during his return to practice Sunday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.

In his first practice since having his appendix removed, Burrow was eased back into the mix, but he actually did more Sunday than coach Zac Taylor had anticipated. "We talked about doing two reps in 7-on-7," Taylor noted afterward. "And then he took 10. That's how it goes sometimes." Though it's uncertain when Burrow will resume practicing fully, the Bengals' franchise QB has ample time to ready himself for the team's Week 1 contest, at home against the Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 11.

  • P.J. Walker QB | SEA

Panthers' P.J. Walker: Plays ahead of Corral

Walker completed 10 of 19 passes for 136 yards in Saturday's 23-21 preseason win over the Commanders.

Walker somewhat surprisingly entered the contest ahead of rookie third-rounder Matt Corral, making him the third Panthers quarterback used behind Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. Given those options, Walker seems unlikely to make Carolina's regular-season roster, making his usage over a developmental option like Corral interesting to note. With Darnold potentially tradeable prior to Week 1, it should be worthwhile to track how the Panthers deploy each of their current quarterback options over the remaining two preseason contests.
