  • Chiefs' Clyde Edwards-Helaire: One tote against Broncos

Edwards-Helaire logged one carry for four yards during Sunday's 24-9 loss versus the Broncos.

Edwards-Helaire logged just two total snaps in the contest and has no more than three totes in a game since Week 3. The fifth-year running back is unlikely to see his role expand in the future, barring an absence from at least Isiah Pacheco. Even then, there's no guarantee Edwards-Helaire's role would surpass Jerick McKinnon's.

  • Chiefs' Jerick McKinnon: Another quiet week

McKinnon accrued two carries for negative two yards and caught one of two targets for 11 yards during Sunday's 24-9 defeat against the Broncos.

McKinnon has logged three or fewer carries in every game this season, though he continues to see some work as a receiver, having allied at least one catch in all but one game. It's unlikely his role will expand much as long as Isiah Pacheco remains healthy and available.

  • Joshua Kelley RB | TEN

Chargers' Joshua Kelley: Hardly involved in win

Kelley carried the ball six times for 21 yards in the 30-13 win over the Bears on Sunday.

Kelley played just 15 total offensive snaps as Austin Ekeler and the Chargers cruised to a relatively easy win. The team ran for only 54 total yards on 25 combined carries, so while the Chargers led by double digits almost from the get go, it's a bit surprising to see the running game struggle to the extent it did Sunday. Don't expect an easier path of resistance against the Jets in Week 9.

  • Lions' Craig Reynolds: Impresses with extended opportunity

Reynolds rushed 14 times for 74 yards and brought in his only target for 13 yards in the Lions' 26-14 win over the Raiders on Monday.

Reynolds parlayed a season-high tally in rush attempts into his best yardage total of the campaign. He consistently gained positive chunks of yardage with his carries, further cementing his status as one of the best No. 3 backs in the league. While he'll presumably be relegated to a smaller role on offense once David Montgomery (ribs) returns following a Week 9 bye, Reynolds may have earned himself at least a slightly larger role moving forward even when the backfield is at full health.

  • Josh Jacobs RB | GB

Raiders' Josh Jacobs: Plays well despite QB's struggles

Jacobs rushed 15 times for 61 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 26-14 loss to the Lions. He also caught two of four targets for 27 yards.

After the Lions scored the game's first nine points, Jacobs took over on the Raiders' second-quarter touchdown drive, rushing six times for 38 yards on the possession, including a three-yard touchdown run to get Vegas on the board. Jacobs averaged 4.9 YPC last season, but his 4.1 YPC on Monday was actually his best single-game mark of 2023, as he came in averaging an ugly 2.9 YPC through seven games. With Jimmy Garoppolo throwing for just 126 yards in his return from a back injury, the Raiders failed to take advantage of Jacobs' solid efficiency, and the running back actually led the team in receiving yards as well. Jacobs will look to build off this effort Week 9 against the 2-6 Giants.

  • Jahmyr Gibbs RB | DET

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Scores first home touchdown in win

Gibbs rushed 26 times for 152 yards and a touchdown while bringing in all five targets for 37 yards in the Lions' 26-14 win over the Raiders on Monday night.

It was milestone night for Gibbs, who set a new career high in rushing yards while also recording his first home touchdown via a 27-yard run late in the third quarter. That scoring scamper served as Gibbs' longest run of the night, underscoring how consistently efficient he was throughout the contest. David Montgomery (ribs) figures to be healthy by the time the Lions come out of their Week 9 bye, so how the division of labor will shake out between him and Gibbs in Week 10 against the Chargers will be something to monitor.

  • Cardinals' Keaontay Ingram: Gets back into offensive mix

Ingram tallied two carries for nine yards and caught his only target for seven yards during Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Ravens.

After being contained to nine snaps on special teams Week 7, Ingram regained a small foothold on offense, despite logging 29 plays in that realm. Meanwhile, Emari Demercado continued to dominate the Cardinals backfield, with James Conner (knee) on injured reserve, turning 42 snaps into 21 touches for 79 yards from scrimmage. Fellow RB Damien Williams suffered a foot injury Sunday, so Ingram may be the exclusive No. 2 option behind Demercado on Sunday in Cleveland.

  • Jonathan Ward: Reverts to practice squad

Ward reverted to Tennessee's practice squad Monday.

Ward saw time on both offense and special teams but failed to record any stats in Sunday's win against the Falcons. With the only two running backs on the Titans' active roster, Derrick Henry (ankle) and Tyjae Spears (ankle), both limited in practice Monday, Ward could be elevated again and see increased playing time versus the Steelers on Thursday if either Henry or Spears can't play.

  • Saints' Kendre Miller: Logs four touches in win

Miller accrued three carries for 10 yards and reeled in his only target for nine yards during Sunday's 38-27 victory against the Colts.

Miller worked his way back into the Saints' rushing rotation after going without a touch in the Week 7 loss to Jacksonville. Yet, the running back still played less than 10 offense snaps for the second week in a row. Miller wasn't expected to handle a significant role this year, and he appears set to see sparse playing time while stuck behind running backs Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams as well as versatile rushing-and-receiving threat Taysom Hill moving forward.

  • Saints' Jamaal Williams: Plays third fiddle in rushing game

Williams tallied six carries for 30 yards and caught his only target for eight yards during Sunday's 38-27 victory over the Colts.

Williams' production remained largely the same for the second week in a row, as he continued to serve as the Saints' No. 2 running back behind bell-cow back Alvin Kamara, who logged 17 carries Sunday. However, the team's leading rusher was actually hybrid tight end Taysom Hill, as he racked up 63 rushing yards on nine carries. Hill and Kamara also accounted for all three of the team's rushing scores versus Indianapolis. Meanwhile, Williams has totaled 44 rushing yards while playing less than 25 percent of offensive snaps over the past two weeks. Williams was largely expected to be a consistent RB2 while seeing considerable run in short-yardage situations, but his usage since returning from IR seems to indicate otherwise. He'll look to play a bigger role Week 9 versus Chicago.
