Coach Frank Reich said Hubbard sustained an ankle injury during Friday's 21-19 preseason loss at the Giants, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.

For a second consecutive contest, Hubbard started for the hobbled Miles Sanders (groin), turning his eight carries into 30 yards. Now that the Panthers' top two running backs are injured, the team is left with Raheem Blackshear, Spencer Brown and Camerun Peoples as its healthy running backs. While Sanders likely will be sidelined until Week 1, it remains to be seen if Hubbard will be able to play in the preseason final on Friday, Aug. 25 versus the Lions.

Brightwell is not in uniform for Friday's exhibition matchup with the Panthers due to an undisclosed issue, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.

Brightwell is competing with Jashaun Corbin, James Robinson and Eric Gray for the team's No. 3 running back role behind Saquon Barkley and Matt Breida. It is unclear what specific issue he is dealing with, but the Giants have one more preseason game left, so he will have more time to make an impression going forward.

Mixon didn't make the trip for Friday's preseason game against the Falcons after attending to personal matters in Cincinnati, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.

Along with Mixon, fellow RB Trayveon Williams (ankle) also didn't make the trip, which sets the stage for Chris Evans and rookie Chase Brown to log the bulk of the team's carries as they did in last week's preseason opener against the Packers. Mixon's last chance to see exhibition action ahead of Week 1 will arrive Aug. 26 against the Commanders.

The Texans signed Rountree on Friday.

Rountree, who logged 13 carries for 19 yards in four games with the Chargers last season, will give the Texans some added backfield depth behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary. The 2021 sixth-rounder is now in a position to compete with Mike Boone, Dare Ogunbowale and Gerrid Doaks for slotting behind Houston's top duo.

Dobbins participated in team drills at Friday's practice, his first time doing so in training camp, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Dobbins ended his "hold-in" earlier this week and started practicing Monday following his activation from the PUP list. He'd been limited to individual work up until Friday. With 23 days until the Ravens' Week 1 opener, Dobbins will have plenty of time to get his legs underneath him in preparation to serve as the team's lead back.

Felton carried seven times for a team-high 36 yards and caught all three targets for 12 yards in Thursday's preseason game against Philadelphia. He also returned two punts for four yards and one kickoff for nine yards.

Felton and John Kelly alternated series in the first half, as neither Nick Chubb nor Jerome Ford (hamstring) played. On results alone, Felton had the better game. Kelly rushed eight times for 20 yards and lost a red-zone fumble on Cleveland's opening drive. The two are battling for the third running back job, which takes on significance in light of Ford's injury.

Scott rushed once for minus-1 yard and did not draw a target in the Eagles' 18-18 preseason tie with the Browns on Thursday night.

Scott's forgettable showing may have done significant damage to his chances of securing a roster spot, especially with Trey Sermon having put together an impressive performance that included a 33-yard touchdown run. The 28-year-old has the experience edge on Sermon, but he may need a standout performance in next Thursday's home preseason finale against the Colts to vault over his teammate in the minds of the coaching staff.

Gainwell rushed twice for six yards in the Eagles' 18-18 preseason tie with the Browns on Thursday night.

Gainwell was the first Eagles back to record a touch, but that carry went for a two-yard loss that resulted in a safety. The 2021 fifth-round pick saw one of his competitors for a reserve running back role, Trey Sermon, outperform him by a wide margin with a five-carry, 54-yard, one-touchdown tally on the ground and a 14-yard reception, so the pressure could be on Gainwell during Philadelphia's preseason finale against the Colts at home next Thursday.

Penny rushed twice for 18 yards and wasn't targeted during the Eagles' 18-18 preseason tie with the Browns on Thursday night.

Penny was the third Eagles running back to record a touch in the contest despite the fact D'Andre Swift got the night off, and he gained 16 of his yards on one carry. The workload was much more abbreviated than Penny's nine-carry tally in the exhibition opener against the Ravens, and it could well be the 2018 first-round pick doesn't see action in Philadelphia's preseason finale at home versus the Colts next Thursday.

Kelly rushed eight times for 20 yards and brought in one of two targets for three yards in the Browns' 18-18 preseason tie with the Eagles on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble.

Kelly was stymied on the ground as his final line indicates, and his fumble at the Eagles' three-yard line that short-circuited the Browns' opening drive was naturally a critical mistake. The 2018 sixth-round pick of the Rams has now had poor outings in back-to-back preseason contests, and Demetric Felton appears to be clearly ahead of him in the battle for the No. 3 running back role heading into Cleveland's preseason finale against the Chiefs on Saturday, Aug. 26.
