Miles Sanders RB | DAL
Eagles' Miles Sanders: Dominating first-team snaps
Sanders has taken a large majority of first-team snaps in recent practices, after splitting the workload with Boston Scott earlier in training camp, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports.
Sanders was rested for Thursday's preseason opener against Pittsburgh, while the Eagles' other healthy running backs (including Scott) all played. Reports from the first couple weeks of training camp suggested Sanders was struggling with drops and fumbles, but he nonetheless remains well ahead of the pack in an RB room with tough competition for backup work. It is possible Scott could handle third downs, and the Eagles might even use a goal-line/short-yardage specialist if they keep Jordan Howard or Kerryon Johnson (knee) on the regular-season roster.

David Montgomery RB | HOU
Bears' David Montgomery: Logs some reps Monday
Montgomery took part in individual drills but otherwise was a spectator at Monday's practice due to general soreness, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
After his one and only touch (a three-yard carry) during Saturday's preseason win against the Dolphins, Montgomery had a visible limp as he came off the field, but he remained on the sideline and wasn't examined by the training staff. The Bears appear to be exercising caution with one of their key skill-position players, likely with an eye toward the running back being as healthy as possible for Week 1. In the offseason, the RB room was bolstered by the signing of veteran Damien Williams, and Tarik Cohen is reaching the end stages of his recovery from a torn ACL. Even if Montgomery cedes some pass-catching reps to that duo this season, he's the clear No. 1 at the position for the Bears.

Zack Moss RB | CIN
Bills' Zack Moss: Returns to team drills
Moss (hamstring) participated in team drills Monday, Matt Parrino of syracuse.com reports.
Moss was injured last Tuesday and missed Friday's preseason opener in Detroit, but the Bills hope to have him ready for their second exhibition this Saturday at Chicago. It'll be interesting to see how Moss and Devin Singletary split first-team snaps if they both suit up.

Aaron Jones RB | MIN
Packers' Aaron Jones: Returns to practice
Jones (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Jones missed practice last week and wasn't available for the preseason opener, but the Packers haven't expressed any real concern about his hamstring. Regardless of his preseason workload -- or lack thereof -- Jones will enter Week 1 as one of the more reliable lead backs in the league, this time ceding work off the bench to 247-pound bruiser AJ Dillon instead of Jamaal Williams. The switch could lead to fewer goal-line carries and more targets, but Jones' excellent work in the red zone in recent years should ensure he isn't frozen out there.

Jamaal Williams RB | NO
Lions' Jamaal Williams: Handles first-team work sans Swift
Williams got the first-team backfield work in Friday's preseason loss to Buffalo, Benjamin Raven of MLive.com reports.
With D'Andre Swift (groin) unavailable, Williams seemed to be the only RB the Lions used at the beginning of the game. Other backs obviously got work after the opening minutes, but Williams doesn't appear to have any competition for backup work this year. Swift is nearing a return to practice and should soon give the Detroit backfield a more explosive element after Williams produced just 15 yards on nine carries in his first appearance in a Lions uniform Friday night.

Patrick Taylor RB | SF
Packers' Patrick Taylor: Nine carries in preseason opener
Taylor had nine carries for 22 yards in the Packers' preseason opener against the Texans.
Taylor was not efficient with his opportunities, but he did lead the Packers in carries in their first exhibition contest. Taylor entered the game after Kylin Hill and ahead of Dexter Williams, suggesting he currently sits fourth on the depth chart with two preseason contests to go.

D'Andre Swift RB | CHI
Lions' D'Andre Swift: Closing in on return to practice
Swift (groin) is scheduled to return to practice Tuesday as a limited participant, Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
Swift isn't likely to be ready for Saturday's preseason game against Pittsburgh but could make it back for the exhibition finale against Indianapolis on Aug. 27. With Swift out of the lineup, Jamaal Williams dominated first-team snaps in Detroit's 16-15 loss to the Bills on Friday.

Khalil Herbert RB | SF
Bears' Khalil Herbert: Shines in NFL debut
Herbert is having a strong camp, and he's currently third on the Bears' depth chart, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
Of course, Tarik Cohen is sidelined as he recovers from his knee injury, so Herbert could quickly fall to fourth on the depth chart, but there's no guarantee that Cohen makes it back in the near future. Hence, Herbert could retain his current spot. In 23 offensive snaps in the preseason opener, Herbert had six carries for 38 yards and three receptions for another 11 yards, and he was successful in the two-minute drill by catching a pair of passes and getting out of bounds. Although he'll need to continue climbing the depth chart to see consistent work in the regular season, Herbert is also serving as the starting kick returner, which may give him added value in leagues that award points for return yardage.

David Montgomery RB | HOU
Bears' David Montgomery: Not practicing
Montgomery (undisclosed) will miss Monday's practice with what the Bears are calling general soreness, Mark Grote of WSCR Radio reports.
Montgomery limped off the field after taking a carry for three yards on the first snap of Saturday's preseason opener against Miami. He didn't need assistance and remained on the sideline, so it may just be a bad bruise. Montgomery is locked in as Chicago's lead ballcarrier after his huge finish last year, but his involvement on passing downs is more of a question, as the Bears signed Damien Williams and eventually figure to get Tarik Cohen back from last year's ACL tear. In any case, it sounds like Montgomery won't be out for long with his current injury.

James Conner RB | ARI
Cardinals' James Conner: Removed from COVID-19 list
Conner (toe) was removed from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Conner was on the list for just four days and now can return to practice, though he's reportedly been limited this summer after having toe surgery in the offseason. While an appearance in one of the Cardinals' final two preseason games would help alleviate concerns, it could be tough to get a read on the extent of Conner's regular-season role before Week 1. Chase Edmonds played the first two drives in Arizona's preseason opener and took four touches for 20 yards.
