  • Chris Evans RB | CIN

Bengals' Chris Evans: Showing good hands in camp

Evans continues to display good hands and route-running in training camp, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.

Evans could be involved in obvious passing situations if the Bengals want to give Joe Mixon a few snaps off here and there. It's worth noting that Evans was described as the token bright spot in an otherwise lousy day for the Bengals' offense during camp.

  • DeeJay Dallas RB | MIN

Seahawks' DeeJay Dallas: Competing for third-down role

Dallas could be a candidate for a role as Seattle's third-down back if his pass-blocking skills show improvement, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.

As long as Chris Carson is healthy, Dallas likely won't receive many carries. Even if Carson gets hurt, both Rashaad Penny and Alex Collins will likely the next men up to lead the ground game. While Dallas profiles as the best route runner in the backfield, his pass-blocking skills weren't good enough last year to earn him much playing time. As it stands, Travis Homer (calf) likely still has the edge on third-down duties because he has adequately protected Russell Wilson in the past. Homer is currently on the preseason PUP list though, opening the door for Dallas to stake his claim to the third-down gig.

  • Packers' Patrick Taylor: Returns to practice

Taylor (groin) returned to the practice field Monday, Eric Boynton of WeAreGreenBay.com reports.

Taylor started training camp on the PUP list due to a groin injury but has now returned to action alongside his teammates. The second-year back now has a chance to compete for the No. 3 running back spot on the depth chart behind Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon.

  • Jordan Wilkins RB | CLE

Colts' Jordan Wilkins: Sits with hamstring injury

Wilkins missed practice Tuesday with a hamstring injury, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Wilkins left Monday's practice with the injury, but the specific reason wasn't known until Tuesday. The injury is likely minor, but it's worth monitoring his progress. Wilkins will likely have a reserve role and sits fourth on the running back depth chart, but he's been given larger opportunities at times by the coaching staff.

  • Colts' Nyheim Hines: Returns from hip injury

Hines participated in practice Tuesday for the first time in training camp after sitting out with a sore hip, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Hines has played all 48 games through three NFL seasons and this issue doesn't sound serious, so he'll likely be ready for the start of the regular season. While the Indianapolis offense will take a hit with Carson Wentz and Quenton Nelson out five to 12 weeks after their foot surgeries, there's a case to be made that Hines could benefit if more short passes are called for backup Jacob Eason.

  • Browns' D'Ernest Johnson: Back with team

Johnson (personal) is back with the team at training camp, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.

Johnson has been getting most of his work in camp as a returner. He's joined by Donovan Peoples-Jones, JoJo Natson, Ryan Switzer and Demetric Felton as potential return men.

  • Salvon Ahmed RB | CHI

Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Wearing non-contact jersey

Ahmed (lower body) wore a non-contact jersey for the first day of padded practice Tuesday, Ruthie Polinsky of NBC 6 reports.

Ahmed left Monday's practice early with what's believed to be just a bruise, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Ahmed and Malcolm Brown seem to be competing for the No. 2 running back spot, while Myles Gaskin is expected to be the starter again.

  • D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE

D'Onta Foreman: Checking in with Atlanta

Foreman is visiting with the Falcons on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

It'd be hard to find a team with a thinner backfield, but that doesn't mean Foreman will waltz into a Week 1 roster spot if he signs. The 25-year-old has already has suffered an Achilles tear and a biceps tear in the NFL, despite making only 17 regular-season appearances. Foreman did get some work behind Derrick Henry in Tennessee last year, taking 23 touches for 100 yards and a TD in six games.

  • Jordan Wilkins RB | CLE

Colts' Jordan Wilkins: Exits with undisclosed injury

Wilkins left Monday's practice with an undisclosed injury, Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reports.

The injury is likely minor, but it's worth monitoring his progress. Wilkins will likely have a reserve role and sits fourth on the running back depth chart, but he's been given larger opportunities at times by the coaching staff. Over his 15 regular-season appearances in 2020, Wilkins logged 84 carries for 308 yards and a touchdown while also securing 12 of 16 targets for 105 yards.

  • Chiefs' Jerick McKinnon: Looks good early in camp

McKinnon has impressed during the early stages of training camp, Charles Goldman of USA Today reports.

While second-year pro Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the incumbent top running back in Kansas City, McKinnon has mixed in with the first-team offense during the first few practices of camp, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic. On Friday, Patrick Mahomes spoke glowingly of McKinnon, calling him "a playmaker that will be a big part of the offense." After missing the 2018 and 2019 seasons due to numerous right knee injuries, McKinnon didn't exactly impress in sporadic action with the 49ers last year, averaging 3.9 yards on his 81 carries, hauling in 33 of 46 passes and scoring six TDs in 16 games. More than likely, he'll vie for reps with Darrel Williams behind Edwards-Helaire in 2021.
