  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Makes limited return to practice

Mostert (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Mostert got back on the field for the first time since spraining his MCL in Week 2, but he may have to bump up to full participation by week's end to gain clearance to play from the 49ers' medical staff. If he misses a third consecutive contest Sunday against the Dolphins, the 49ers backfield will be manned by Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty.

  • Tavien Feaster RB | JAC

Tavien Feaster: Signs with practice squad

The Lions signed Feaster to the practice squad Wednesday.

The undrafted rookie out of South Carolina is being brought in to add depth on the practice squad after the Lions cut Jonathan Williams in late September. Feaster was quite productive in college, as he carried 124 times for 672 yards and five scores as a senior, adding 17 receptions for 87 yards as well.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Set to practice Wednesday

Mostert (knee) is slated to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Getting back on the practice field will be a positive step in Mostert's recovery from a sprained MCL suffered Week 2, and he'll have a few more chances this week to elevate to full participation. With Tevin Coleman (knee) still on injured reserve for a few more weeks, Mostert would have less competition for backfield reps if he can gain clearance from San Francisco's medical staff to play Sunday versus the Dolphins. Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty are the current healthy options available to the 49ers backfield.

  • Zack Moss RB | CIN

Bills' Zack Moss: Limited again to start week

Moss (toe) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Moss was limited in practice all of last week and ultimately missed a second consecutive game, allowing Devin Singletary to dominate the running-back touches in Sunday's win over the Raiders. Given Moss's absence last week, he would ideally progress to a full practice by Friday to help assure his status for this weekend's game in Tennessee.

  • Joshua Kelley RB | TEN

Chargers' Joshua Kelley: Could see playing-time bump

Kelley could see more opportunities with top running back Austin Ekeler (hamstring) expected to miss the next 4-to-6 weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Kelley wasn't particularly impressive in relief of an injured Ekeler in Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers, as he carried the ball nine times for seven yards while also committing an egregious fumble near the end of the first half, which allowed Tampa Bay to gain momentum in its eventual come-from-behind win. The fumble was the rookie's second in as many weeks, but coach Anthony Lynn didn't seem to lose much confidence in Kelley, who still played a season-high 57 percent of the offensive snaps. While Ekeler is sidelined, the Chargers may not view Kelley as a true bell cow but instead as more of an Option 1A ahead of Justin Jackson, who should factor in much in the same way Ekeler did when Melvin Gordon served as the team's lead tailback in past seasons. Both Jackson and Kelley have proven to be useful pass catchers out of the backfield, so whomever gets the majority of the work may boil down to the hotter hand between the two each week. With three straight matchups on tap against bottom-tier run defenses in the Saints, Jets and Dolphins, both Kelley and Jackson might be relevant fantasy options even in shallower leagues.

  • Eno Benjamin RB | NO

Cardinals' Eno Benjamin: Still no NFL carries to his name

Benjamin was inactive during Sunday's 31-21 loss to the Panthers.

The Cardinals have leaned upon Kenyan Drake (67 attempts) and Chase Edmonds (16 attempts) for 100 percent of the team's RB carries this season, as Benjamin remains in search of his first NFL appearance. The seventh-round choice from this past April's draft was not afforded preseason play to exhibit his skills in game action, but he showed enough during training camp to enter 2020 as Arizona's third option at running back. Barring injury in front of him on the depth chart, however, it appears Benjamin is not in line for any significant work heading into a Week 5 matchup against the Jets' bottom-12 rush defense.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

49ers' Jeff Wilson: Quiet outing against Eagles

Wilson registered six rushing yards on three carries, adding a 13-yard reception on his lone target during Sunday night's 25-20 loss to the Eagles.

Wilson enjoyed a solid receiving day with three catches and 54 yards against the Giants in Week 3, but his performance in that game was boosted significantly by a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. He otherwise struggled mightily on the ground, registering just 15 yards on 12 attempts. Week 4 against the Eagles, Wilson was shut down on the ground again, now bringing his season-long yard-per-carry average to 1.4. He may sink a spot on the depth chart heading into a Week 5 matchup against the Dolphins, as it's possible starting back Raheem Mostert (knee) makes his return to practice Wednesday.

  • Kenjon Barner: Faces four-game ban

Barner was handed a four-game suspension Tuesday for violating the NFL's Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Barner is currently on the practice squad, but he's been elevated for each of the Buccaneers' last two games. The team's backfield depth is iffy with Leonard Fournette (ankle) and LeSean McCoy (ankle) battling injuries, so the Bucs could bring in another running back on the practice squad.

  • Jonathan Ward RB | BAL

Cardinals' Jonathan Ward: Jumps to active roster

The Cardinals signed Ward off their practice squad Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Ward was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster both of the Cardinals' last two games, only for him to revert back to the practice squad afterward. Teams can only exercise this right two times with players, so Arizona is bringing Ward up to the active roster to serve as a regular on special teams. When it comes to offense, Ward likely needs an injury to one of Kenyan Drake or Chase Edmonds to get on the field otherwise.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: No offensive snaps in Week 4

Thompson didn't take the field on offense during Monday's win over the Patriots.

Thompson hasn't seen more than a 19 percent offensive snap share in any of the first four games, but a fumble last week on just six offensive snaps certainly did the second-year back no favors. He's firmly behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams in the pecking order for backfield touches, and that shouldn't change as long as the two ahead of him are healthy and available.
