  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Minor role in opener

Gibson was on the field for five of a possible 71 snaps on offense in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Raiders, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Gibson was out-snapped by both Rhamondre Stevenson (46) and TreVeyon Henderson (25) in the Patriots' season opener, and that's a trend that figures to continue in the coming weeks. In his limited playing time Sunday, Gibson carried once for three yards and didn't secure his only target.

  • Texans' Dare Ogunbowale: Rare fumble seals team's fate

Ogunbowale had two carries for nine yards, caught both of his targets for 17 yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams in Week 1.

The lost fumble is all anyone will remember from Ogunbowale's day. It came late in the fourth quarter with the Texans inside the Los Angeles 20-yard line, and it was the team's final offensive play of the game. Ogunbowale had the ball punched from his arms, and then the Rams killed the clock. It was just the third fumble (second one lost) in nine NFL seasons. On a positive note, his 17 snaps were the second most in the backfield behind Nick Chubb (32) and ahead of Dameon Pierce (seven) and Woody Marks (seven). Pierce is still considered the second back, but the way the game unfolded led to Ogunbowale, Houston's third-down back, being on the field more often.

  • Woody Marks RB | HOU

Texans' Woody Marks: Light usage Week 1

Marks had three carries for three yards in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams in Week 1.

Marks, a 2025 fourth-round draft pick, entered the regular season as the fourth back on the depth chart, and nothing about Sunday's usage changed that. He's solidly behind Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale and will have to be patient and wait for his opportunities.

  • Texans' Dameon Pierce: Minimal run in opener

Pierce had three carries for five yards and didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams in Week 1.

With Joe Mixon (foot) on the reserve/non-football injury list, there were opportunities for the healthy backs, but Pierce was granted just seven snaps. Nick Chubb (32 snaps) got the bulk of the work, while Dare Ogunbowale (17) operated as the third-down back and was on the field in obvious passing situations, particularly late in the game as Houston attempted a comeback. There's not much to read into Sunday's game other than that the Texans offense under new offensive coordinator Nick Caley was a disappointment.

  • Kaleb Johnson RB | PIT

Steelers' Kaleb Johnson: Minimal involvement in debut

Johnson rushed the ball once for minus-2 yards in Sunday's 34-32 win over the Jets. He also returned five kickoffs for 132 yards.

Johnson clearly served as Pittsburgh's third running back, with his only rushing attempt coming late in the third quarter. His primary contribution came as a kick returner, though he narrowly escaped disaster when a teammate recovered his fumble on a return late in the first quarter. Johnson had an uneven training camp due to his work as a pass blocker and receiver, so he'll likely continue to be brought along slowly behind Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell.

  • Derrick Henry RB | BAL

Ravens' Derrick Henry: GOAT turns to goat on final drive

Henry rumbled for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries while catching his lone target for 13 yards with a lost fumble in Sunday's 41-40 loss to the Bills.

Henry suffered the lowlight of Sunday's contest when the normally sure-handed back coughed up a fumble on Baltimore's second-to-last drive, allowing Buffalo to score a TD with just under two minutes remaining to close the gap to 40-38. Fantasy managers won't lost any sleep over the rare fumble, as it came on the heels of a monstrous statistical performance from the 31-year-old. The perennial All-Pro lost just one fumble over his last two full seasons, so Sunday's faux pas should be considered an anomaly. Henry is showing no signs of slowing down heading into a Week 2 matchup against the Browns.

  • James Cook RB | BUF

Bills' James Cook: Tops 100 scrimmage yards with TD

Cook rushed 13 times for 44 yards and a touchdown while catching all five of his targets for 58 yards in Sunday's 41-40 win over the Ravens.

Cook heated up after a quiet first half. He scored a two-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter and came two yards shy of tacking on a receiving touchdown in the fourth quarter, settling for a 51-yard gain on the play. Cook led the team in rushing yards and exceeded 100 scrimmage yards while Ty Johnson and Ray Davis combined for just three carries and three targets, so Cook unsurprisingly remains the clear lead back after signing a four-year, $48 million extension in August. Buffalo played catch-up throughout this win and will hope for a better defensive performance, which would allow for a more run-heavy game script, in Week 2 against the Jets.

  • RJ Harvey RB | DEN

Broncos' RJ Harvey: Shows off explosiveness

Harvey rushed six times for 70 yards in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Titans. He added one reception on one target for -1 yards.

Harvey alternated drives with J.K. Dobbins for most of the first half, though the Broncos relied heavily on Dobbins down the stretch to secure a victory in positive game script. The end result was that Harvey was out-touched 18-7 by Dobbins, but Harvey still managed to show off his explosiveness on a 50-yard run early in the fourth quarter, which ultimately set up a Dobbins score. While Harvey looks to be the second back in Denver for the time being, he still has a clear role in the offense and could see that expand if he continues to prove himself as a pro.

  • Nick Chubb RB | HOU

Texans' Nick Chubb: Leads backfield with 60 yards

Chubb took 13 carries for 60 yards while failing to bring in his only target in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams.

Chubb was the Texans' lead back as expected Sunday, receiving 10 more carries than the next running back on the depth chart. The 29-year-old flashed glimpses of his former All-Pro form with a healthy average of 4.6 yards per carry. Catastrophic injuries derailed the end of Chubb's tenure with Cleveland, but a clean bill of health could result in a career renaissance with Houston. With Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) still without a timetable to return, Chubb is worth a look against the Buccaneers next Monday if he went overlooked in drafts.

  • J.K. Dobbins RB | DEN

Broncos' J.K. Dobbins: Works ahead of Harvey

Dobbins rushed the ball 16 times for 63 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Titans.

Denver's backfield was one of the more interesting ones to monitor in Week 1, and Dobbins ultimately out-touched RJ Harvey 18-7. Dobbins was largely held in check by the Titans' defense, though he did manage 12 carries for 51 yards in the second half -- highlighted by a 19-yard touchdown scamper midway through the fourth quarter to secure victory for the Broncos. Positive game script likely tilted usage in Dobbins' direction, but he looks to be the lead back by at least a small margin for the time being.
