  • Jonnu Smith TE | PIT

Titans' Jonnu Smith: Progressing despite red-zone drop

Smith has looked good as Tennessee's No. 2 tight end early in camp, Colton Pouncy of the Tennessean reports.

Smith's most memorable play on the Titans' third day of camp was a red-zone drop, but that sequence isn't representative of how well the third-rounder out of Florida International has handled the high volume of passes thrown his way. He has also earned praise from coach Mike Mularkey for his desire to learn and improve. Tennessee has the luxury of bringing him along slowly behind veteran Delanie Walker, but that doesn't mean Smith won't make an impact in his rookie campaign.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Day-to-day with hamstring injury

Kittle (hamstring) was held out of Monday's practice with a hamstring injury, Eric Branch of The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The fact that Kittle is being labeled as day-to-day gives us the impression that his hamstring injury isn't considered too serious. Still, any missed time in camp for the rookie tight end is detrimental to his development and his quest to move up the 49ers' depth chart. Kittle was seeing first-team snaps during minicamp, so he will look to regain that momentum when he gets back on the practice field.

  • Cory Harkey TE | LAR

Rams' Cory Harkey: Rids self of NFI label

Harkey (triceps) was removed from the non-football injury list Saturday, Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register reports.

Although he ended last season on IR due to a triceps injury, Harkey didn't actually log one snap in 2016. Now healthy, expect him to contend with Temarrick Hemingway for the third spot on the tight end depth chart in training camp.

  • Gerald Everett TE | CHI

Rams' Gerald Everett: Coach praises athleticism

Everett's athleticism and comfort level has stood out to head coach Sean McVay through the first two days of training camp, Myles Simmons of the Rams' official site reports.

Everett, this year's second-round selection, is vying for seeding on the depth chart with 2016 fourth-round pick Tyler Higbee, and the winner of the position battle projects to have a sizeable role in the Los Angeles offense. McVay leaned on his tight ends heavily during his tenure as Washington's offensive coordinator, so his praise of Everett's start to training camp is an early positive for the rookie. It's worth noting that both Everett and Higbee will probably be involved in the passing attack and limit each other's fantasy upside, though.

  • Larry Donnell TE | BAL

Ravens' Larry Donnell: Signs contract with Ravens

Donnell signed a contract with the Ravens on Sunday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Donnell had a relatively disappointing 2016 campaign with the Giants -- he pulled in just 15 receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown across 14 games -- which prompted the team to let him walk during free agency. However, with the Ravens losing both Dennis Pitta (hip) and Darren Waller (suspension) for the season, as well as Crockett Gillmore's recent knee injury, Donnell will bring some much-needed depth to the position. He'll battle with the likes of Ben Watson, Nick Boyle and Maxx Williams for time at tight end throughout training camp.

  • Cardinals' Gerald Christian: Signs with Cardinals

Christian signed a contract with the Cardinals on Thursday, Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic reports.

Christian was promoted to the Bills' active roster in December of last season and was able to record one catch for 14 yards. He'll now be competing for a backup role in Arizona.

  • E.J. Bibbs TE | WAS

Redskins' E.J. Bibbs: Signs with Redskins

Bibbs signed a contract with Washington on Thursday, Stephen Czarda of the Redskins' official site reports.

Bibbs hasn't appeared in a game since he played in seven games with the Browns as a rookie in 2015, recording one catch for seven yards. He spent last season with the Jaguars but was released by the team back in May. Now in Washington, Bibbs will be fighting for a depth tight end and special teams role.

  • Raiders' Cooper Helfet: Given NFI designation

Helfet (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list Tuesday, Jimmy Durkin of the Mercury News reports.

Helfet needed surgery after breaking his foot in the first week of the 2016 preseason, when he was waived/injured by the Seahawks. His last NFL action came in 2015, when he played 14 games and caught 13 balls on 22 targets for 130 yards and zero touchdowns. The timeline for Helfet's return is murky due to the lack of transparency on the nature of the injury. With tight end Jared Cook ahead of Helfet in the depth chart and receivers like Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree on the field as well, don't expect quarterback Derek Carr to give Helfet much attention when he's healthy.

  • Travis Kelce TE | KC

Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Goes through drills on Day 1 of camp

Kelce (shoulder) participated in on-field work at training camp Tuesday, BJ Kissel of Chiefs.com reports.

It was announced Monday that Kelce would avoid going on the Physically Unable to Perform list to start camp despite undergoing shoulder surgery earlier in the offseason and missing all of Kansas City's Organized Team Activities. The fact that Kelce was participating in drills on the first day of camp further suggests that he'll enter the season without any restrictions. Kelce, who is coming off a career year in 2016, stands to be even more of a focal point in the Chiefs' passing attack this season with Jeremy Maclin signing with Baltimore in June.

  • Geoff Swaim TE | CLE

Cowboys' Geoff Swaim: Limited at training camp

Swaim (foot) is limited at the start of Cowboys training camp, Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Swaim spent the offseason recovering from a season-ending pectoral tear as well as a stress fracture in his right foot, the latter of which required surgery in March. While his pectoral muscle has healed, Swaim may still be hampered by the foot. Don't be surprised if the Cowboys take it easy on him throughout the entirety of training camp.
