Johnny Mundt TE | PHI
Jaguars' Johnny Mundt: Won't play Saturday
Mundt (upper body) will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
Mundt has been limited in practice due to an upper-body injury, and he'll be held out of Saturday's preseason opener to avoid aggravating the injury. He'll have two more chances to make an appearance during the preseason, with the next game taking place Sunday, Aug. 17 against the Saints. Quintin Morris, Patrick Herbert and Shawn Bowman are candidates to see an uptick in snaps at tight end due to Mundt's absence.

Theo Johnson TE | NYG
Giants' Theo Johnson: Sees early volume Saturday
Johnson caught both his targets for 10 yards in Saturday's 34-25 preseason win over the Bills.
Both of Johnson's receptions came on the Giants' opening drive with Russell Wilson under center, and the duo connected a third time, only for the play to be wiped out by a penalty. The second-year tight end missed time as a rookie with a foot injury, but over his final five games in 2024 he posted an intriguing 18-216-1 line on 27 targets. Johnson has been healthy in camp and has some breakout potential given his size and athleticism, as well as the glimpses of chemistry he showed Saturday with Wilson.

Dalton Schultz TE | HOU
Texans' Dalton Schultz: Not on track to play Saturday
Schultz isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Schultz, who profiles as the Texans' top tight end, is among the Texans' key players on track to sit the contest out, so the soonest he might see preseason snaps is Aug. 16 against the Panthers. The 29-year-old put up a 53/532/2 receiving line in 17 regular-season games with Houston in 2024.

Kenny Yeboah TE | DET
Lions' Kenny Yeboah: Past leg issue
Yeboah (leg) suited up for the Lions' preseason game against the Falcons on Friday.
Yeboah has been working through a leg injury that he suffered during the Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers on July 31. He was healthy enough to make himself available for Friday's game, though he didn't play a single snap. Yeboah could have a larger role in the Lions' third preseason game against the Dolphins on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Cameron Latu TE | PHI
Eagles' Cameron Latu: Nursing groin injury
Latu did not participate in Saturday's training camp practice due to a groin injury, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Latu may have picked up the injury during the Eagles' 34-27 preseason win over the Bengals on Thursday, when he played 23 snaps (seven on offense, 16 on special teams) while recording one solo tackle. The 2023 third-rounder has a slim shot of making the Eagles' 53-man roster as a backup tight end, and an extended absence will diminish those chances even further. Latu will look to recover enough to return to practice and be available for the Eagles' second preseason contest against the Browns on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Jake Ferguson TE | DAL
Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Practices Friday
Ferguson (back) participated in Friday's non-padded practice, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
He was diagnosed with a back contusion after an early departure from Thursday's practice. Ferguson told reporters that he's dealing with some pain, but he wants to stay in his routine now that he knows there's no structural injury. Injured or not, he'll presumably be one of the many Cowboys held out of Saturday's preseason game against the Rams.

Jake Ferguson TE | DAL
Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Diagnosed with contusion
Ferguson was diagnosed with a back contusion after his early exit from Thursday's practice, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
It sounds like he was in pain at the time but should be able to practice again soon. Ferguson signed a four-year, $52 million extension a couple weeks ago, with the Cowboys betting big on a rebound after he managed just 494 yards and no touchdowns in 14 games last year. Better health would go a long way, both for Ferguson himself and for QB Dak Prescott.

Cole Kmet TE | CHI
Bears' Cole Kmet: Back at practice
Kmet (undisclosed) returned to practice Thursday, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Kmet left practice early Tuesday, so whatever was bothering him clearly wasn't a serious issue. Kmet has been active with the first-team offense during camp despite the Bears using the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 Draft on Colston Loveland. New coach Ben Johnson is expected to involve both tight ends this season.

Jelani Woods TE | NYJ
Colts' Jelani Woods: Two receptions in preseason opener
Woods had two receptions for 23 yards on three targets in Thursday's preseason loss at Baltimore.
Woods was once viewed as a possible impact player in the passing game, but he has missed back-to-back full seasons due to injuries (hamstring issues in 2023 and turf toe in 2024). The 2022 third-round pick isn't likely to have much of a role this season even if he makes the final roster due to the team's selection of rookie first-rounder Tyler Warren. However, Woods could find his way to relevance on another roster with a good preseason showing.
-
Tyler Warren TE | IND
Colts' Tyler Warren: Puts up 40 yards in debut
Warren caught each of his three targets for 40 yards in Thursday's preseason game at Baltimore.
Warren also had a seven-yard gain wiped out by a penalty on Indy's second snap of the game. The Colts rested most of their projected starters, but Warren and Anthony Richardson were out there, until Richardson left with a finger injury on the second drive. Warren then caught a couple passes from Daniel Jones, including a 23-yard gain, while handling a three-down role for the first three or four drives of the game. It was an impressive showing for the 14th overall pick, albeit with a reminder of the likelihood he deals with poor QB during his rookie season.
