  • Cowboys' Luke Schoonmaker: Placed on NFI list

Schoonmaker (foot) is on the active/non-football injury list for the start of training camp.

The use of the NFI list rather than PUP suggests Schoonmaker's foot issue predates the 2023 NFL Draft or else was suffered afterward while he was away from the team. Either way, the tight end was limited during spring practices and isn't off to the best start as he attempts to earn snaps for a team that lost Dalton Schultz to Houston in the offseason. The second-rounder out of Michigan will compete with second-year pros Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot for playing time.

  • Geoff Swaim TE | CLE

Cardinals' Geoff Swaim: Links up with Arizona

Swaim is signing with the Cardinals on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Swaim has spent each of the past three seasons in Tennessee and appeared in 17 contests last year. The veteran finished with 12 receptions on 16 targets for 58 yards and a touchdown in 2022. He should compete for a backup role behind Zach Ertz (knee) and Trey McBride.

  • Will Mallory TE | IND

Colts' Will Mallory: Still nursing injury

Mallory (foot) will begin training camp on the active/PUP list, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.

The 2023 fifth-round pick has been dealing with a foot injury since the beginning of June, but it seems as if progress has been made. General manager Chris Ballard told reporters the move is precautionary, and Mallory should be back soon. Once the rookie returns, expect him to compete for a depth role amongst a talented group of tight ends ahead of the coming season.

  • Jelani Woods TE | NYJ

Colts' Jelani Woods: Will be full go for training camp

Woods (hamstring) said Tuesday that he'll be full go for training camp, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

Woods missed OTAs and veteran minicamp with a hamstring injury but will be back in action for the start of training camp. The 2022 third-round pick caught 25 of 40 targets for 312 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie in limited action, but the 6-foot-7 pass catcher has a chance to carve out an even bigger role in Year 2. The Colts signed blocking specialist Pharaoh Brown and drafted Will Mallory in the fifth round of the 2023 Draft, but Woods' biggest competition for receiving work will come from Mo Alie-Cox and Kylen Granson.

  • Jimmy Graham TE | NO

Saints' Jimmy Graham: Surprising reunion with Saints

Graham signed a one-year contract with New Orleans on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old may need to compete for a roster spot in a crowded tight end corps that features Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill. Graham hasn't seen NFL action since the 2021 season, when he put up just a 14-167-3 receiving line in Chicago across 15 games. Graham may be nothing more than a situational end-zone target if he does make the team, but it will be fitting if he's able to finish out his career as a member of the Saints after catching 51 touchdowns in five seasons and making three Pro Bowls with the franchise in the early 2010s.

  • MyCole Pruitt TE | PIT

Falcons' MyCole Pruitt: Staying in Atlanta

Pruitt is re-signing with the Falcons on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Pruitt is returning to Atlanta after appearing in 13 contests for the team last season. The 31-year-old recorded career highs across the board, with 16 receptions on 21 targets, 150 yards and four touchdowns. He'll likely be working to earn a role as the team's No. 3 tight end, behind Kyle Pitts and Jonnu Smith.

  • Saints' Miller Forristall: Passes physical Monday

Forristall (undisclosed) passed his physical Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The Saints will presumably activate Forristall off the active/PUP list now that he's healthy. The undrafted product out of Alabama has been in the league since 2021, mostly spending time on the Browns' practice squad. He's appeared in six games over the past two seasons, but he failed to catch his only target during that stretch.

  • Eric Tomlinson TE | LAC

Texans' Eric Tomlinson: Returns to Houston

Tomlinson re-signed with the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Tomlinson was released by the Texans on May 18, but he'll now have another opportunity with the team, which had originally signed him two weeks earlier. The 31-year-old spent last season with Denver, where he appeared in all 17 games and recorded nine catches on 13 targets for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

  • Bills' Jace Sternberger: Expected to land in Buffalo

The Bills plan to sign Sternberger on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Sternberger, a 2019 third-round pick by the Packers, appeared in 18 games over two seasons in Green Bay and caught 12 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown. He was let go in 2021 after serving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy and has since spent time with the Seahawks, Commanders and Steelers but never appeared in a regular-season game for any of those teams. Sternberger played for the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL this spring and led the league with seven touchdowns while finishing fourth in receiving yards (517). The 27-year-old is certainly talented, but he'll have an uphill battle landing a roster spot in a tight end room that features Dawson Knox (lower leg) and Dalton Kincaid.

  • Colin Thompson TE | MIN

Vikings' Colin Thompson: Headed to Minnesota

Thompson signed a contract with the Vikings on Monday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Thomspon spent the last three seasons with the Panthers, playing 26 games between 2020 and 2021. He remained in Carolina during the 2022 campaign, but he was never elevated from the practice squad. He'll work to earn a depth role in Minnesota behind T.J. Hockenson, with his strongest contributions likely coming on special teams.
