  • Miles Boykin WR | CHI

Ravens' Miles Boykin: Sitting out first preseason game

Boykin (hamstring) will not play in Saturday's preseason game against New Orleans, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Boykin has dealt with a hamstring injury since Aug. 2, and that's believed to be the reason he's sitting out Saturday's game. With Sammy Watkins, Rashod Bateman (groin) and Tylan Wallace added at receiver this offseason, Boykin faces competition for a roster spot for the first time in his three-year career.

  • Marquise Brown WR | PHI

Ravens' Marquise Brown: Out for Saturday's game

Brown (hamstring) won't play in Saturday's preseason game against New Orleans, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Fellow wideouts Miles Boykin (hamstring) and Rashod Bateman (groin) will also be out for Saturday's exhibition, with the latter in danger of missing Week 1 after his injury required surgery. Brown has been dealing with a hamstring injury since late July and still hasn't returned to practice.

  • Tre'Quan Smith WR | DET

Saints' Tre'Quan Smith: Not playing Saturday

Smith (undisclosed) didn't take the field for warmups before Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore, Sean Fazende of FOX8 reports.

With Michael Thomas rehabbing from June ankle surgery and Smith now nursing an undisclosed injury, the Saints are left with a wideout group that includes Marquez Callaway, Deonte Harris, Chris Hogan and Lil'Jordan Humphrey. Recent camp reports put Callaway at the head of the pack following a rookie season with 21 catches for 213 yards. Smith should still be a Week 1 starter if his injury isn't serious, but he could benefit from getting more reps with QBs Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill this summer. The Saints' next exhibition will be Mon., Aug. 23 against Jacksonville.

  • Jaylen Waddle WR | DEN

Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle: Returns punt for 24 yards

Waddle wasn't targeted in Saturday's preseason game against the Bears, but he did have a 24-yard punt return in the first quarter.

Waddle worked with the first-team offense and got plenty of snaps alongside Tua Tagovailoa, who threw six of his 11 passes to tight ends. The rookie first-round pick at least got a chance to show off his talent on special teams, though he'll have tough competition for return work on a team with WR/RS Jakeem Grant. In any case, Waddle should see at least one or two targets in the second week of the preseason, even if one or two of the Dolphins' veteran wideouts (Will Fuller, DeVante Parker, Albert Wilson) is able to make it back on the field. Miami will host the Falcons on Aug. 21 before wrapping up the exhibition schedule Aug. 29 at Cincinnati.

  • Steelers' James Washington: Still dealing with leg injury

Washington had a wrap with ice on his lower right leg Saturday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Washington has been bothered by the minor injury since at least last weekend, missing practice time shortly after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the wideout had requested a trade. It makes sense given his standing as the No. 4 receiver in a contract year, but head coach Mike Tomlin and OC Matt Canada both downplayed the report and said Washington is an important part of the team/offense. It sounds like Washington should return to practice soon, considering he stretched and ran sprints Saturday afternoon.

  • Gabe Davis WR | BUF

Bills' Gabriel Davis: Goose egg in preseason opener

Davis wasn't targeted in Friday's 16-15 preseason win over Detroit.

Davis was the top Bills wide receiver dressed with Stefon Diggs (knee), Cole Beasley and Emmanuel Sanders all being held out, but Mitchell Trubisky didn't look Davis' way on any of the 2020 fourth-round pick's 11 offensive snaps. Look for Davis to have more involvement in Week 2 of preseason against the Bears as he looks to usurp some of the snaps from Sanders on the outside opposite Diggs.

  • DeVante Parker WR | PHI

Dolphins' DeVante Parker: Held out Saturday

Parker will not play in Saturday's preseason game against Chicago.

Given his experience and injury history, Parker might've been held out of the preseason opener even if he'd been enjoying a healthy training camp. In reality, he's been in and out of practice the past couple weeks, with the Dolphins seemingly limiting his workload to avoid any issues with the unspecified soft-tissue injury that landed him on the PUP list in late July. The Dolphins are down four wide receivers for Saturday's game, with Parker joined by Will Fuller (foot), Albert Wilson (undisclosed) and Allen Hurns.

  • DeVonta Smith WR | PHI

    Eagles' DeVonta Smith: Progressing well

Smith has been upgraded to day-to-day as he continues to recover from an MCL sprain, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.

Smith actually was spotted stretching with the team and running sprints on the sidelines, so it was assumed the first-round pick would ultimately participate in Saturday's practice, but the Eagles continue to be cautious with their prized rookie. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner appears to be on track to return within the two- or three-week timetable that was suggested after Smith sprained his MCL at the start of training camp.

  • Cardinals' Christian Kirk: Looks healthy Friday

Kirk caught his only target for a 34-yard gain in Friday's preseason win over the Cowboys.

The fourth-yard receiver missed practice time earlier in the month due to an undisclosed injury, but Kirk was in the starting lineup Friday and was on the other end of a big Colt McCoy pass during the Cards' second possession. Kirk is being pushed for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart by rookie Rondale Moore, but DeAndre Hopkins (undisclosed) and A.J. Green (undisclosed) are expected to be the focus of the passing game for Arizona during the regular season.

  • CeeDee Lamb WR | DAL

Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb: Makes brief preseason debut

Lamb failed to haul in his only target during Friday's preseason loss to the Cardinals.

After sitting out last week's Hall of Fame Game against the Steelers, Lamb saw a few snaps in this one before making a quick exit. Expect the second-year receiver to see more extensive work next week against the Texans as he gets tuned up for the regular season.
