  • McCabe signed a five-year, $22.55 million contract with Toronto on Monday. McCabe is playing the final season of his four-year, $16 million deal. He has generated three assists, seven shots on goal, 17 blocked shots and 19 hits in nine outings this campaign. The 31-year-old blueliner produced personal bests during the 2023-24 regular season with eight goals, 28 points and 219 hits across 73 appearances.

  • McCabe recorded two assists, three hits, two PIM and a plus-3 rating in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Kings. McCabe had a hand in goals by Bobby McMann and Morgan Rielly in the blowout win. Through four contests, McCabe has three assists, a plus-7 rating, 10 hits and 10 blocked shots. The 31-year-old defenseman provides a lot of physicality, and his offense should be at a passable level since he's playing on the second pairing at even strength. McCabe is unlikely to unseat Oliver Ekman-Larsson or Morgan Rielly for power-play time.

  • McCabe (upper body) will be in the lineup versus the Canadiens on Wednesday, David Alter of The Hockey News reports. McCabe missed the Maple Leafs' preseason finale, but that was deemed precautionary. He'll return to his usual second-pairing role for Opening Night. McCabe had a career-high 28 points in 73 regular-season appearances last year, but the bulk of his fantasy value lies in his ability to generate hits and blocked shots at a high rate.

  • McCabe (upper body) is likely to practice Monday, Joshua Kloke of The Athletic reports. McCabe didn't play in Saturday's preseason finale versus the Red Wings, but the Maple Leafs likely took a precautionary approach with his injury. Assuming he can practice without further issues, the 30-year-old defenseman will probably suit up for Opening Night on Wednesday versus the Canadiens.
