Jarry was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning loan Saturday. The temporary demotion comes as a bit of a surprise as the Penguins only gave Jarry three games this campaign after he was the team's No. 1 goaltender the past three seasons. Granted, Jarry got off to a horrible start, giving up 12 goals on 73 shots (.836 save percentage), but the Penguins can't afford to be patient with him following a 3-5-1 to start to 2024-25. Pittsburgh will rely on Alex Nedeljkovic and Joel Blomqvist in Jarry's absence.

Jarry is back in Pittsburgh to work on his form, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports Thursday. Jarry went 1-1-0 with 12 goals allowed on 73 shots (.836 save percentage) over his first three games of the year. With the 29-year-old back in Pittsburgh, it's safe to say he won't play Friday in Edmonton or Saturday in Vancouver, but he could get a chance to get back on track as soon as Tuesday's game versus the Wild. Jarry will have his work cut out for him in regards to regaining playing time, as the Penguins still have Alex Nedeljkovic and Joel Blomqvist on the NHL roster.

Jarry gave up three goals on five shots before being replaced by Joel Blomqvist midway through the first period in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime win over the Sabres. The Penguins were able to climb out of the hole their starting goalie dug for them, but the tone for his performance was set when Tage Thompson scored on a wraparound 43 seconds into the game after Jarry misplayed the puck behind the net. The 29-year-old has an ugly 5.45 GAA and .833 save percentage through his first three appearances this season, and while a trade seems unlikely given the three years and $16.125 million left on his contract after 2024-25, Jarry's role could be in jeopardy -- especially once Alex Nedeljkovic (lower body) returns from IR.

Jarry was the first goalie to leave the ice Wednesday, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports, indicating he'll be in goal at home versus Buffalo. Jarry was fairly steady in his last start, stopping 24 of 27 shots (.889 save percentage) in a winning effort over the Habs on Monday. Still, it's been a less-than-stellar start to the year for the 29-year-old netminder. If he stumbles against the Sabres, it could open the door for Joel Blomqvist to get the nod versus Carolina on Friday. Jarry's hold on the No. 1 job will become even more tenuous once Alex Nedeljkovic (lower body) returns to action.

Jarry stopped 24 of 27 shots in Monday's 6-3 win over the Canadiens. Jarry picked up his first win of the season after a disappointing 6-0 loss to the Rangers on Opening Night. He sat out the next two games due to the poor performance and will need a consistent stretch of play to earn back his status as the team's primary goalie. Per Josh Yohe of The Athletic, there is an open competition for playing time. Jarry and Joel Blomqvist will anchor the crease for now and could soon be joined by Alex Nedeljkovic (lower body).
