Shesterkin made 28 saves in a 5-4 shootout win over the Flyers on Saturday. Shesterkin surrendered two power-play goals in the second period, but then bricked things up, especially in overtime when he was the difference maker killing off two 4-on-3s to force the shootout. Shesterkin allowed 18 goals (.893) in his last six starts (3-2-1), but his overtime exploits Saturday could signal that this porous period is over.

Shesterkin has played in 10 of the Rangers' last 12 outings, posting a 6-3-1 record, 2.60 GAA and .906 save percentage. The Russian backstop is currently tied with Karel Vejmelka for the league lead in starts with 27, and could find himself in the mix for the Vezina Trophy if he can start putting together a string of victories.

Shesterkin stopped 22 of 25 shots in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Ducks, with Anaheim's third goal getting scored into an empty net. The 29-year-old netminder has hit a tough stretch in December. Shesterkin has given up at least three goals in four straight starts, going 1-2-1 with a 3.21 GAA and .881 save percentage and getting little help at either end of the ice -- the erratic Rangers scored just three total goals in those three losses. Better days should be ahead for Shesterkin, but his 13-11-3 record on the season is once again dipping close to .500.
