Seider signed a seven-year, $59.85 million contract with the Red Wings on Thursday. Seider was a restricted free agent, and this agreement, along with locking Lucas Raymond up to an eight-year, $64.6 million contract Monday, puts Detroit's books in order going into the 2024-25 campaign. As is the case with Raymond's deal, Seider's cap hit ($8.55 million) looks solid now for what he brings to the table and could become tremendous value as he continues to develop and the salary cap increases further. The 23-year-old defenseman had nine goals and 42 points in 82 contests last season, making it the third straight campaign in which he surpassed the 40-point mark. Seider is expected to enter the season as a member of Detroit's top four and receive steady work with the man advantage.

Seider scored a goal in the regular-season finale Tuesday, a 5-4 shootout win over the Canadiens. Winged Wheel fans won't get to see how Seider would fare in the playoffs, at least not this year, as Detroit was eliminated from playoff contention by virtue of the Capitals defeating the Flyers on Tuesday. Still, it was another strong regular-season campaign for the fiery young defenseman who just cashed out the balance of his entry-level contract with the Wings. Seider registered a career-high nine goals to complement 33 assists in 2023-24, matching his point total from last season. He remained a force on the man advantage based on three goals and 14 assists, and his defensive contributions were rock solid as well, as Seider blocked 213 shots and delivered 210 hits. Risk-averse fantasy managers will likely place a premium on Seider during next year's drafts since the durable defenseman has yet to miss a game.

Seider posted an assist in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Penguins. Seider teed up fellow defenseman Jeff Petry for a slap shot that brushed twine and narrowed the deficit to 4-3 in the second period. Unfortunately, Seider's produced just two multi-point games since the beginning of March, and with three games to go in the regular season, it's going to take something close to a miracle for him to match the 50-point rookie output that resulted in him winning the Calder Trophy following the 2021-22 campaign. Nonetheless, the German blueliner is still producing at a solid level for fantasy managers.

Seider is dealing with an illness ahead of Tuesday's game versus Washington, Max Bultman of The Athletic reports. Although he's under the weather, the Red Wings are still hopeful Seider will be available against the Capitals. Confirmation on Seider's status for Tuesday's contest likely won't surface until Detroit takes the ice for pregame warmups.

Seider produced a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Blue Jackets. The 22-year-old blueliner also added five shots on net, three blocked shots, a hit and a plus-2 rating to his ledger. Seider's second-period tally was his eighth of the season, a new career high, and over the last 16 games he's collected 10 points (two goals, eight assists) with 12 PIM, 24 shots on net, 43 blocked shots and 44 hits.
