Golden Knights' Tomas Hertl: Buries goal in Tuesday's win

Hertl scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Sharks.

Hertl has three goals and an assist over three outings against his former team this season. The 32-year-old is on a four-game point streak (two goals, four assists). He's up to 15 goals, 28 points, 100 shots on net, 44 hits and a minus-7 rating through 35 appearances. Hertl's functioning as the Golden Knights' de facto top center while Jack Eichel (lower body) is out, though Mitch Marner has lined up as the center on the top line despite limited usage on faceoffs.

  • Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Opens scoring Tuesday

Nugent-Hopkins scored a goal on four shots and added two PIM in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Flames.

Nugent-Hopkins heads into the holiday break with four goals and two assists over his last four contests. The 32-year-old is up to 11 goals, 31 points, 50 shots on net and a minus-7 rating over 29 appearances. He's typically more of a playmaker, but fantasy managers won't complain about him being a bit more selfish with the puck for a while.

  • Zach Hyman C | EDM

Oilers' Zach Hyman: Racks up three points in win

Hyman scored a goal on six shots and added a pair of power-play assists in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Flames.

This was Hyman's second multi-point effort in a row and his fourth such performance of the last eight games. The 33-year-old winger's return to the lineup in mid-November started out quiet, but he's been working at a high pace in December. Overall, he's up to 10 goals, nine assists, eight power-play points, 52 shots on net, 31 hits and a plus-3 rating over 19 appearances.

  • Oilers' Connor McDavid: Handful of apples in win

McDavid notched five assists (three on the power play), fired six shots on net and added two PIM in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Flames.

McDavid brought his best in this Battle of Alberta chapter, with his five helpers being a season high for points in a game. It's part of a larger run of 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) during an 11-game streak, which has vaulted him into the NHL's top spot for points this season with 67. In addition to his 23 goals and 44 assists, the superstar center has 128 shots on net and a plus-1 rating through 38 appearances. Nearly three points per game is a pace too high for even a McDavid-level talent to sustain, but he's now firmly in midseason form at the holiday break.

  • Oilers' Leon Draisaitl: Hat trick in Battle of Alberta win

Draisaitl scored three goals, all on the power play, in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Flames.

Draisaitl put an end to his eight-game goal drought in style, striking with the man advantage in each frame to fuel this win. The 30-year-old wasn't cold even when he couldn't score -- he had 15 assists and 30 shots on net in that span. With the hat trick, he's up to 20 goals, 55 points (27 on the power play), 105 shots on net and a plus-9 rating over 38 appearances this season.

  • Rangers' Mika Zibanejad: Four points in last three games

Zibanejad had two assists in a 7-3 win over the Capitals on Tuesday.

Zibanejad has four points, including three assists, and three shots in his last three games. One goal and an assist came on the power play. Toss out his one point in his first six games, and you have a guy with 28 points in 32 contests. That would very much be a typical Zibanejad output, aside from his point-per-game runs during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 regular seasons.

  • Dylan Strome C | WAS

Capitals' Dylan Strome: First power-play goal of season

Strome scored a goal in a 7-3 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

Strome's power-play snipe put the Caps up 2-1 at 8:40 of the second period. It looked like Igor Shesterkin had robbed the pivot with a sharp glove save at the right post, but video review determined the puck had crossed the goal line. It was Strome's first PPG of the season; he had nine last year. Strome is on a modest three-game, four-point scoring streak (one goal, three assists, six shots). Overall, he has 27 points, including 20 assists, in 35 games this season.

  • Flyers' Denver Barkey: Sustains injury Tuesday

Barkey (undisclosed) was injured on a hit from behind in the second period of Tuesday's game versus the Blackhawks. He did not play in the third period and will be evaluated in the coming days, Jackie Spiegel of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Barkey will have some extra time to recover thanks to the holiday break, as the Flyers' next game is Sunday in Seattle. The 20-year-old forward has been seeing middle-six usage since he was called up last Friday. Consider Barkey to be day-to-day until further information is available.

  • Capitals' Aliaksei Protas: Pace finally quickening

Protas had a goal and an assist in a 7-3 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

Protas had put Washington back ahead 3-2 at 12:11 of the second period, scoring on a snap shot from the bottom of the left circle off a rebound. Protas has four points, including three goals, and eight shots in his last four games. He has picked up the offensive pace of late with 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in his last 19 games.

  • Rangers' Vincent Trocheck: Three-point outburst

Trocheck had two goals and an assist in a 7-3 victory over Washington on Tuesday.

His goals came as part of a five-goal flurry in the third period that keyed the Rangers' win. Trocheck drilled in a rebound at 13:43 to push the score to 5-3, and then he scored on a 2-on-1 rush at 18:09 for the 7-3 final. Trocheck's last multi-point game came Nov. 12, so this was nice to see. He has five points, including three goals, and 10 shots in his last four games.
