NHL Player News

  • Kings' Joel Edmundson: Poised to play

Edmundson (upper body) is expected to play against Detroit on Tuesday, according to Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site.

Edmundson logged just 14:51 of ice time in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over St. Louis, but it seems he won't miss additional playing time due to the injury. He has accounted for two goals, 14 assists, 67 shots on net, 53 blocked shots and 59 hits across 50 appearances this season.

  • Bruins' Nikita Zadorov: Expected to play

Zadorov (ankle) is slated to play Tuesday versus the Predators, Scott McLaughlin of WEEI reports.

Zadorov missed Monday's game versus the Rangers, but he was a game-time decision for that contest. He also returned to Saturday's game versus the Canadiens after sustaining the injury, which suggests it isn't likely to be a long-term concern. Zadorov is expected to fill a top-four shutdown role Tuesday.

  • Sean Durzi D | UTA

Mammoth's Sean Durzi: Slated to play

Durzi (undisclosed) is expected to be in the lineup versus the Panthers on Tuesday.

Durzi left Monday's game versus the Lightning late in the third period after taking a hit along the boards. However, it appears he's no worse for wear, though the Mammoth did call up Dmitri Simashev for extra defensive depth prior to Monday's contest. Durzi should fill a top-four role in Tuesday's game.

  • Avalanche's Keaton Middleton: Brought up from AHL

Middleton was summoned from AHL Colorado on Tuesday.

Middleton has two goals and nine points in 39 AHL appearances this campaign. He will probably make his 2025-26 debut with the Avalanche against Ottawa on Wednesday. Middleton had two assists, 44 shots on goal, 37 blocked shots and 69 hits in 41 games for Colorado during the 2024-25 NHL regular season.

  • Mammoth's Dmitri Simashev: Called up from minors

Simashev was recalled from AHL Tucson on Tuesday.

Simashev's promotion would seem to indicate that Sean Durzi (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup versus the Panthers on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, forward Cameron Hebig was sent down to the minors. In 24 NHL games this year, Simashev has yet to score a goal while generating just one assist. As much, fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect him to suddenly start producing offensively if he gets into the lineup.

  • Zeev Buium D | VAN

Canucks' Zeev Buium: Has broken bone near cheek

Buium (face) is dealing with a broken bone near his cheek and isn't expected to be available until after the 2026 Winter Olympics, according to Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet on Tuesday.

Buium was injured Sunday against the Penguins after being struck in the face by the puck. MacIntyre relayed that surgery has yet to be ruled out to address Buium's broken bone near his cheek. The 20-year-old Buium was placed on injured reserve Monday and will now turn his attention to attempting to be ready for game action when the Canucks resume play Feb. 25 against Winnipeg after the Olympics.

  • Zayne Parekh D | CGY

Flames' Zayne Parekh: Conditioning stint going well

Parekh (upper body) scored twice in AHL Calgary's 6-3 win over Laval on Monday.

Parekh has two goals and two assists over three games during his conditioning stint in the AHL. The defenseman was loaned Jan. 17, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the Flames end his loan prior to the end of the week, as it can last a maximum of 14 days. Once back with the big club, he'll compete with Joel Hanley, Hunter Brzustewicz and Brayden Pachal for playing time on the third pairing.

  • Maple Leafs' Dakota Mermis: Goes on waivers

Mermis (lower body) was placed on waivers Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Mermis had one goal, five shots on net, nine blocked shots and eight hits in 11 NHL outings this campaign before landing on injured reserve. Assuming he clears, he will probably report to AHL Toronto. Mermis hasn't earned a point in three minor-league appearances this season.

  • Oilers' Spencer Stastney: First goal, point with new team

Stastney scored a goal and went plus-2 in Monday's 7-4 win over the Ducks.

Stastney tied the game at 2-2 in the second period, scoring the first of four Edmonton goals in a span of 3:49 during the frame. This was his first point as an Oiler -- he has played 23 games with a minus-4 rating and 28 blocked shots since he was acquired from the Predators. Overall, the blueliner has 10 points, 52 shots on net, 53 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating through 53 appearances in his first full NHL campaign. Stastney looks to have the edge over Alec Regula for playing time on the third pairing.

  • Oilers' Darnell Nurse: Snaps slump with goal

Nurse scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Monday's 7-4 win over the Ducks.

Nurse snapped a nine-game point drought with the tally. The 30-year-old defenseman has had a handful of cold stretches this season while filling a top-four role. He's now at seven goals, 17 points, 112 shots on net, 74 hits, 120 blocked shots, 81 PIM and a minus-9 rating over 54 appearances. He's on pace to miss the 30-point mark for the first time since 2017-18.
