NHL Player News

  • Joel Nystrom D | CAR

Hurricanes' Joel Nystrom: Sent to AHL

Nystrom was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Friday.

Nystrom looks to be the odd-man out with the pending return of Jaccob Slavin (upper body). Nystrom has played 33 games at the NHL level this season, notching eight assists, 21 blocked shots and 38 shots on goal.

  • Jets' Josh Morrissey: Point streak reaches four games

Morrissey recorded a goal, took three shots and blocked two shots in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Oilers.

Morrissey scored a goal for the first time since Dec. 27, and he's up to six points over his last eight games. The defenseman remains one of the most valuable fantasy alternatives on a struggling Jets team that has lost 11 games in a row.

  • Hurricanes' Jalen Chatfield: First goal of season a game-winner

Chatfield scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Thursday's 5-2 win over Anaheim.

The second-period tally was Chatfield's first goal of the season. The steady stay-at-home blueliner has found a bit of offense since Christmas, as half of his 10 points on the season have come in the last eight games, along with 15 shots on net, eight blocked shots, five hits and a plus-4 rating.

  • Penguins' Erik Karlsson: One of each in win

Karlsson scored a goal, tallied an assist and put two shots on net in Thursday's 4-1 win over New Jersey.

Karlsson tallied the opening goal for Pittsburgh just under seven minutes into the first period before picking up a secondary helper on Evgeni Malkin's power-play score. With the pair of points, Karlsson now has four goals, 29 assists, 92 shots on net and 40 blocks through 42 games this season. During the Penguins' six-game win streak, the 35-year-old blueliner has been a steady contributor to the offense with seven points, which include two multi-assist outings. The Pens' top defenseman ranks inside the top 10 in points among blueliners across the NHL and is tied for sixth in assists. While he likely won't reach the 100-point threshold again, Karlsson should continue to quarterback the team's top power-play unit, which should give him a solid chance at posting his best offensive season with Pittsburgh if he can surpass the 56 points he had during the 2023-24 season.

  • Canadiens' Mike Matheson: Bags two apples in win

Matheson notched two assists and two blocked shots in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Panthers.

Matheson snapped a four-game slump with the pair of helpers. He's up to 20 points, 54 shots on net, 26 hits, 91 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating through 41 appearances. Matheson remains heavily relied on in a top-four role, providing a little physical play and steady work in his own zone as one of Montreal's pillars on the blue line.

  • Noah Dobson D | MON

Canadiens' Noah Dobson: Tallies opening goal in win

Dobson scored a goal on four shots and blocked three shots in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Panthers.

Dobson ended a four-game point drought with a goal just 2:59 into this contest. Before the slump, he had a stretch of three goals and six helpers over six outings. The defenseman is at eight goals, 28 points, 86 shots on net, 109 blocked shots, 22 PIM and a plus-1 rating over 44 appearances in 2025-26. While he won't come anywhere near his 70-point campaign from 2023-24, Dobson should challenge for the 50-point mark this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Christiansen: Pushed out of lineup

Christiansen was scratched in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Christiansen had played in the previous seven games, logging two shots on net, five blocked shots and three hits, but he didn't have a point in that span. The 26-year-old received a chance to play regularly when Brendan Smith (knee) exited the lineup, but the Blue Jackets' signing of Egor Zamula has once again forced Christiansen out of the lineup. Over 26 outings this season, Christiansen has just one assist, 18 shots on net, 18 hits, 12 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating, so it's not like fantasy managers will need to track his usage moving forward.

  • Vince Dunn D | SEA

Kraken's Vince Dunn: Helps out on both goals in loss

Dunn logged two assists, four shots on goal and two blocked shots in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Wild.

Dunn logged multiple assists for the second game in a row, and three of his four helpers in that span have come on the power play. The 29-year-old blueliner had a hand in goals by Adam Larsson and Matty Beniers to help the Kraken force overtime Thursday. Dunn is up to 25 points (14 on the power play), 92 shots on net, 47 blocked shots, 32 PIM and a minus-12 rating across 41 contests.

  • Adam Larsson D | SEA

Kraken's Adam Larsson: Pots goal in overtime loss

Larsson scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Wild.

Larsson got the Kraken on the board at 3:13 of the third period with his first goal since Dec. 6 versus the Red Wings. The 33-year-old defenseman has two points over his last three outings and may be thawing out after a cold December on offense. He's now at three goals, 10 points, 46 shots on net, 24 PIM, 60 hits, 94 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating over 42 appearances in a top-four role.

  • Brock Faber D | MIN

Wild's Brock Faber: Pair of points in overtime win

Faber scored a goal on three shots, added an assist and went plus-2 in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over the Kraken.

Faber has two goals and five points over his last three games. The 23-year-old defenseman continues to provide steady offense and blocked shots in a top-pairing role alongside Quinn Hughes. Faber is up to 10 goals, 26 points, 97 shots on net, 104 blocks and a plus-12 rating over 45 appearances.
